PORTLAND (AP) — Columbia River Crossing officials have downsized plans and cut about $650 million from the project, bringing the cost of a new Interstate 5 bridge between Portland and Vancouver to $2.45 billion.
Officials told an Oregon legislative committee the changes could reduce Oregon's contribution from $450 million to $300 million.
The Oregonian reports Gov. John Kitzhaber was the driving force for scaling back the plan. The changes would eliminate planned improvements to the Marine Drive interchange in Portland and three interchanges in Vancouver.
