Pemco Mutual Insurance

Clarke

Harris Clarke is expanding his role as vice president of operations at Pemco Mutual Insurance in Seattle to head the company's claims department. Clarke has been a member of Pemco's executive team since 2014 and is experienced in customer-centric project management and technology. Dawn Lee takes over Clarke's responsibility for the underwriting and product departments in the newly created position of vice president of product and underwriting. Lee joined Pemco in 2017 and most recently served as director of product. Prior to that, she developed and executed business plans for Liberty Mutual and Safeco Insurance.

Seattle Public Schools

Dr. Mia Williams is the new executive director of the Department of African American Male Achievement for Seattle Public Schools. Williams has been an educator at Seattle Schools for 26 years, the last 11 years as principal of Aki Kurose Middle School. The newly created department focuses on the advancement of African American males and elimination of disparities in educational and social outcomes for students.

Swenson Healthcare

Tacoma-based Swenson Healthcare expanded its services to include psychiatric care. The move responds to a growing need for psychiatric services in a post-acute care setting. Dr. Linda Miller, a board-certified psychiatrist with over 30 years of clinical practice, recently joined Swenson to initiate the program. Swenson is a clinical practice group serving patients in a post-acute care setting.

Umba

Carrie Jo Umba is now an owner of the Seattle accounting and tax firm of Hagen, Kurth, Perman & Co. Umba has been a CPA since 1998 and advises closely held businesses and their entrepreneurial owners. She joins four other owners at the firm that was founded in 1974.

Ashbaugh Beal

Grossman

James Grossman joined Ashbaugh Beal in Seattle as an associate practicing in the firm's litigation groups. Grossman received his juris doctor degree from the University of North Dakota School of Law.

Windstar Cruises

Seattle-based Windstar Cruises says it had a record number of bookings in July. The company operates six small cruise ships that sail to 330 unique ports of call. It is expanding and improving three of its ships under a $250 million initiative. Those renovated ships will launch in February, July and November of 2020.

Sarcos Robotics

Miller

Sarcos Robotics appointed Jim Miller as vice president of defense solutions. Miller is a retired U.S. Army Special Forces colonel who was in active duty for nearly 30 years. Sarcos makes full-body exoskeleton robots for industrial and military applications. It is headquartered in Salt Lake City, with an office in Bellevue.

University of Idaho

The University of Idaho hired Terry Gawlik as athletic director. Gawlik worked at the University of Wisconsin since 1994, holding various positions including assistant athletics director and deputy Title IX coordinator. She earned her bachelor's degree at Southwestern University and her master's at Texas State University. She played basketball and volleyball and coached those sports at three Texas colleges. Her new job starts Sept. 1.

Broadmark Capital

Trinity Merger Corp. is buying Broadmark Capital's real estate lending and management companies to create an internally managed commercial mortgage REIT. The new company will be called Broadmark Realty Capital when the deal is finalized in early November. The buyout is estimated at $1.2 billion, with 92% in newly issued Broadmark Realty stock and 8% in cash. Broadmark's executive team will continue in their respective roles in the new company, with Jeffrey B. Pyatt becoming CEO and Joseph L. Schocken becoming board chair. Trinity is a special purpose acquisition company headquartered in Honolulu. Seattle-based Broadmark provides construction, land and development financing for commercial and residential properties.
