Roach

Touger

Sazan Group promoted Daniel Touger to managing principal and leader of the Portland office and hired Phil Roach as an associate and senior plumbing designer in the mechanical engineering department in Portland. Touger has led the mechanical engineering department for the past several years. He will continue to provide internal coordination between departments and external communication with clients and owners. Roach has over 20 years of experience in plumbing design and project management. He will work on specialized health care projects and assist with the education portfolio. Sazan provides mechanical, electrical and fire protection engineering, information technology systems consulting, lighting design and owner representation services.

DLR Group

Fuller

McKay

DLR Group appointed Steve McKay and John Fuller managing principals. They are on its executive leadership team and will join the board of directors. McKay joined the Seattle office in 1996. As the firm's global design leader, he collaborates with sector and studio leadership in 30 locations. He was instrumental in DLR Group being an early adopter of the 2030 Challenge, and an initial signatory of the AIA 2030 Commitment and the China Accord — a commitment by design firms to plan and design all cities, towns and buildings in China to low carbon/carbon neutral standards. Fuller, as the firm's chief marketing officer, leads the global marketing, business development and growth initiatives for its 10 core market sectors. Under his leadership, the firm's new fees have tripled from $106.9 million in 2009 to $290 million in fiscal year 2019. He works in Kansas City. The firm provides architecture, engineering, interiors, planning and building optimization.

Angeles

In Seattle, Makers Architecture and Urban design hired Ralaine Angeles as an associate I–architectural designer, Linda Ashby as a planner/designer and Cyndi Wilder as marketing and human resources director. Angeles has three years of experience as a senior designer, BIM lead at CallisonRTKL, where she designed and assisted in the development of retail and commercial projects. She is on the federal facilities planning team at Makers. Ashby has 15 years of project leadership experience in landscape planning, research and design; advertising and corporate communications; nonprofit program development and outreach and event planning. Organizations she has worked with include AOL and the Landscape Architecture Foundation. She is working on the Citywide Space Planning Study for Portland. Wilder was previously a marketing coordinator at Makers and most recently was communications director for Seattle's Department of Finance and Administrative Services. She has 17 years of communications, marketing and operations experience in industries that include real estate, construction and planning and also in government.

Duckett

In Beaverton, Oregon, Nike appointed Thasunda Brown Duckett to its board. Duckett is CEO of Chase Consumer Banking, a division of JPMorgan Chase & Co. Prior to that, she was CEO of Chase Auto Finance and was a director of emerging markets at Fannie Mae.

PacStar

Miller

Pacific Star Communications CEO Peggy Miller won the Executive of the Year award in the 16th annual Stevie Awards for Women in Business, held last week in New York City. Miller won in the Business Products (11-2,500 employees) category. Portland-based PacStar develops and supplies communications solutions for the U.S. Department of Defense.

Qumulo

Michael Cornwell is the new chief technology officer at Qumulo, a Seattle-based provider of hybrid cloud storage. Cornwell was general manager of storage technologies for Microsoft's Azure Infrastructure. Prior to that, he was a founding engineer at Pure Storage, developing the company's first all-flash hardware platform.

Picnic

Seattle-based restaurant tech startup Picnic added former Amazon and Microsoft hardware leader Kennard Nielsen as vice president of engineering. Nielsen led development of the first four Kindle Fire tablets for Amazon, Xbox Kinect for Microsoft and FuelBand for Nike. He is a registered professional engineer who holds seven patents. Picnic also said it raised $5 million in a seed funding round by Creative Ventures, with investors Flying Fish Partners and Vulcan Capital. That capital will support product development, staffing and marketing. The company makes a robot that assembles pizzas.

T-Mobile

Bellevue-based T-Mobile plans to open a customer experience center in New York's Nassau County once its merger with Sprint is completed. It will be the fourth of five planned centers, joining Overland Park, Kansas; Rochester, New York; and Kingsburg, California. The fifth location hasn't been announced yet. The Nassau County center is expected to create up to 1,000 jobs. T-Mobile says it will use project labor agreements for construction of both New York centers.
