Seattle-based EHS-International hired Jennifer Moore as managing principal, David Braungardt as technical director, Riyaz Syed as principal of health and safety services and Shonnessy Gilmore as a certified industrial hygienist. Moore has 19 years of environmental consulting experience. She has managed environmental due diligence, environmental compliance auditing, stormwater program management, environmental permit compliance, hazardous materials and waste management, subsurface investigations, visible emissions air monitoring, and safety and environmental training. Braungardt has 29 years of industrial hygiene, hazardous materials management and environmental consulting experience. His project experience includes managing industrial hygiene, air monitoring, environmental site assessments, remediation and demolition. Syed is a certified industrial hygienist, safety professional and a hazardous materials manager with more than 23 years of industrial hygiene and environmental health and safety consulting experience. He has experience implementing EHS strategies, identifying hazards, evaluating risks and preventing incidents. Gilmore is a safety professional with seven years of industry experience in occupational health and safety. That includes overseeing health and safety at universities, airports, public works, military bases and federal buildings. Her project experience includes soil remediation, ergonomics, worker safety and protection, industrial hygiene and environmental health. EHS-International specializes in environmental consulting and engineering, hazardous materials management, industrial hygiene, construction management and indoor air quality consulting.

Slalom

Great Place to Work and Fortune named Slalom as one of the 2020 Best Workplaces for Women. The ranking considered feedback representing over 4.9 million employees working at Great Place to Work-certified organizations. Great Place to Work, a global people analytics and consulting firm, evaluated more than 60 elements of team members' experiences on the job. These included the extent to which employees trust leaders, the respect with which people are treated, the fairness of workplace decisions, and how much camaraderie there is among the team. Rankings are based on employees' feedback. Slalom took the No. 34 spot on the list, up from No. 45 last year. Slalom is a consulting firm focused on strategy, technology and business transformation. Founded in 2001 and headquartered in Seattle, Slalom does business in over 35 markets across the U.S, and around the world.

Boeing

Boeing announced $700,000 in grants from the Boeing Charitable Trust to help local communities with the ongoing crisis caused by wildfires burning along the West Coast. Boeing is providing $500,000 to the American Red Cross to support its fire relief efforts in Washington, Oregon and California. Additionally, Boeing is donating $200,000 to provide food assistance in these states where significant numbers of the company's employees live and work: $100,000 is being given to Northwest Harvest in Washington, and $50,000 apiece to the Oregon Food Bank and Redwood Empire Food Bank in California. Boeing's grant to the Red Cross will provide shelter, food and essentials for those who have been displaced from their homes due to the wildfires. These funds will also assist in the ongoing evacuation and aid delivery response in impacted communities. The company will also match qualifying employee contributions made to eligible nonprofits for wildfire relief efforts.

Symend

Symend, a science-driven debt recovery company, announced that Vivian Farris has been appointed chief people officer. Farris has over 20 years of experience at Calgary tech companies such as Image Club Graphics, Eyewire, Veer, and most recently, Benevity. Farris has built out offices in Canada, the U.S. and Europe. Symend is headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, with satellite offices in Toronto and Denver; and plans to expand into Atlanta and Seattle.

MG2

Gist

Global architectural design practice MG2 hired architect Ben Gist as a principal in its Seattle office. Gist will lead the firm's mid-rise and multifamily housing markets. He was an associate principal at Mithun and has over 20 years of experience partnering with clients in West Coast cities. Some of his recent projects include The Huxley in West Seattle, Arras residential community in Bellevue and the UC Irvine Middle Earth Towers, which received the DBIA Western Pacific Region Design-Build Design Excellence Award and Regional Award in 2020. MG2 provides strategic planning, interior design, brand strategy and architectural and consulting services.

Moz

Moz, a search engine optimization firm, announced the addition of two board members, Asia Orangio and Tara Reed, joining previous members Sarah Bird, CEO of Moz, Michelle Goldberg, general partner at Ignition Partners, and Brad Feld, managing director of Foundry Group. Both Orangio and Reed are CEO's and founders of their own companies, with experience in the technology, digital marketing and SaaS industry. Orangio is CEO and founder of DemandMaven, a SaaS mentor for both GrowthMentor and TinySeed, as well as an advisor of Atlanta Tech Village. Reed is the CEO of Apps Without Code, an online school teaching people how to build their own apps without any coding knowledge. Rand Fishkin, founder of Moz and co-founder and CEO of Sparktoro, is stepping down from his position on the Moz board.

City of Tacoma

Twelve Tacoma residents were appointed to the inaugural Tacoma Creates Advisory Board by the Tacoma City Council. The primary responsibility of the board is to help Tacoma Creates staff ensure compliance to program and accountability standards. The board also advises the Office of Arts & Cultural Vitality to guide program development and approve funding recommendations. The following appointees make up the Tacoma Creates Advisory Board: Kenya Adams, arts position; Putter Bert, council district 2 position; Megan Clark, council district 5 position; Sheree Cooks, council district 4 position; Amanda Figueroa, science position; Jason Gamboa, heritage position; Roxane Hreha, public education position; Michael Hudson, culture position; Connar Mon, youth position; Dominica Myers, council district 3 position; Liesl Santkuyl, council district 1 position; and Davon White, community engagement position. Tacoma Creates is a voter-approved initiative to increase access to arts, culture, heritage and science experiences.

Meydenbauer Center

Meydenbauer Center, located in Bellevue, earned the Global Biorisk Advisory Council (GBAC) STAR Facility accreditation, becoming the first convention center in Washington state to earn the accreditation. The accreditation is awarded by GBAC, a subdivision of ISSA, a trade association for the cleaning industry worldwide. To achieve the accreditation, facilities must demonstrate compliance with the 20 elements of the program, including risk assessment, standard operating procedures, proper cleaning and disinfection chemicals and personal protective equipment. The program is performance-based and in order to maintain their accreditation facilities must continue to demonstrate that they have the correct procedures and training in place to respond to and recover from outbreaks and pandemics like COVID-19. Meydenbauer Center will continue reporting to ISSA on a quarterly basis to maintain the accreditation.

Norcliffe Foundation

The Norcliffe Foundation recently contributed $1 million to the WA Food Fund, a statewide food relief program that has raised $12.8 million since April 2020. The Norcliffe Foundation is a private non-profit family foundation established in 1952 by Paul Pigott, who was president of Pacific Car and Foundry in Seattle. State officials estimate 2.2 million people in the state are at risk of going hungry, as record numbers of Washingtonians are out of work. The WA Food Fund is managed by Philanthropy Northwest and funds are directed to three organizations that supply food banks and pantries across the state: Food Lifeline, Second Harvest and Northwest Harvest.

GLY Construction

Heist

Steve Heist earlier this year joined GLY Construction in Bellevue as safety director. This is Heist's second stint with GLY — he originally joined the firm in 1998 as a carpenter before moving into site safety. He left GLY in 2007 to join the state Department of Labor and Industries as a safety and health technical specialist. Heist returned to the private sector in 2013, holding multiple operations and safety management and executive positions at Approach Management Services and Crawford Advantage Solutions. He also is a member of the governor's Safety and Health construction panel.

Coast Pavement Services

Tigard, Oregon-based Coast Pavement Services formed a subsidiary division, RePlay West, to distribute bio-based RePlay pavement rejuvenator throughout Oregon, Washington and California. Coast says RePlay reverses the oxidation in existing asphalt, bringing it back to 95% of new condition. The launch of RePlay West follows Coast's acquisition of Sandy, Oregon-based Pacific Earth, an excavation company that specializes in environmentally sensitive projects. Both divisions bolster Coast's focus on sustainable asphalt construction.
