Seattle-based Coughlin Porter Lundeen promoted Aaron Fjelstad and Jackie Sempel to civil associate, Christen Sanders and Marie Ternes to structural project manager, Walt Busch, Eric Dixon and Ben Frizzell to structural associate and Mike Armstrong to senior structural project manager. Fjelstad specializes in challenging urban sites. Sempel establishes a collaborative environment with contractors, jurisdictions, mentees and others she works with. Sanders' experience is in the preK-12 sector, focusing on the uniqueness of the designs, diversity of building materials and distinctive programming needs. Ternes works to bring coordination and organization to even the most complicated projects. Her work has included West Main and the State Hotel. Busch has technical skills and specializes in applications of concrete and steel. He's also is part of the region's mass timber movement. Dixon has extensive experience with concrete and steel construction as well as mass timber across a variety of building types. Frizzell's work has included the Enumclaw High School modernization, Sitka and Palihotel Seattle. He specializes in residential, preK-12 and renovation projects. Specializing in excavation and shoring, Armstrong oversees the firm's most complex shoring projects. He also focuses on fire stations and the preK-12 market. Coughlin Porter Lundeen is a structural and civil engineering firm.

FFA Architecture and Interiors promoted Laura Roark to associate partner. Roark will join the firm's leadership team while continuing her work leading projects which include K-12, parks and recreation, multifamily, mixed-use, higher education and libraries. She has spent half her career, which spans over 20 years, at FFA. The Portland-based firm provides architecture, planning and interior design.

Mayes Terracon promoted Heath Defoor to principal and Mark Gordon to department manager for its Tacoma office. Defoor will take over the Seattle materials testing and inspection services group, replacing Mike Dolder, who is retiring after 30 years with the firm. Mike Mayes and Tim Beckerle will continue to support Defoor as senior consultants. Defoor has 18 years of experience including the last seven with Mayes Terracon as senior project manager and department manager. He has worked on projects in the Northwest, including the Lincoln Square expansion, 2+U, Expedia Seattle Headquarters Campus, Microsoft Refresh Campus and 333 Dexter. Gordon manages materials testing, laboratory quality control, safety programs and field staff. He is a WABO registered technical director, special inspector and lab and field supervisor. He has over 25 years materials testing and inspection experience with 20 at Mayes Terracon, a consulting engineering firm that provides environmental, facilities, geotechnical and materials services.

Seattle landscape architecture firm Weisman Design Group promoted Peter Nelson to principal and Taber Jossi Caton to associate principal. Nelson will continue guiding the design of urban private sector projects and public educational campuses. Caton recently returned to the firm as a senior associate after several years back in her home state of Rhode Island. She has a wealth of experience designing higher education and public spaces.

Tres West Engineers promoted James Chong to associate principal. Chong is an electrical engineer with knowledge in a variety of electrical systems. He has experience in transportation, education, commercial and multifamily projects including mid-rise and high-rise buildings. His recent work includes Seattle Housing Authority Lam Bow Apartments, Pierce Transit building upgrades, Seattle Municipal Tower elevator modernization planning, and projects for Sound Transit. Tacoma-based Tres West provides MEP feasibility studies, design and engineering, construction administration and construction management.

Kelly Kelley-Horne, marketing and business development manager of The Riley Group, was elected as the 2021 International Real Estate Federation-Seattle Council president. The federation was founded in 1951, and is headquartered in Paris. The Riley Group is an environmental consulting and geotechnical firm headquartered in Bothell.

JayRay

Tacoma-based JayRay announced the addition of Alex Domine as a new JayRay advisor. Domine brings experience in communication strategy for causes from education to the environment to equity, and in sectors spanning nonprofits, technology and economic development. Domine most recently worked as communications director at Charles Wright Academy. JayRay partners with national and regional clients on branding, advertising and strategic communication programs.

City of Tacoma

The city of Tacoma Historic Preservation Office Announced that 2021 Heritage Project Grant applications are available through Friday, April 30, 2021 on its web page. The goal of the program is to support projects that increase public awareness and access to Tacoma's history. Eligible applicants include non-profits and public and educational institutions. Applicants may apply for an award between $1,000 and $10,000 for their project. This is a matching grant with a total of $50,000 in total funds to be granted. The grant requires that applicants demonstrate matching funding for proposed projects, and cannot fund general operating expenses. FarEye

FarEye announced the appointment of Suvrat Joshi as its chief product officer. Joshi brings with him over 20 years of experience in leadership roles at Yahoo, Amazon, Microsoft, Facebook and most recently Dropbox. Joshi will be based out of Seattle and will drive product strategy and growth for the company. FarEye also recently announced that it will be hiring 100 tech professionals globally in 2021. FarEye is a predictive logistics SaaS platform designed to streamline operations for industries across retail, manufacturing and transport and logistics.
