Gregory

Bellevue-based general contractor Rafn Co. promoted Chip Gregory to COO, Art Salas and Brien Hager to assistant superintendents, and Jered Cottell to assistant project manager. Gregory has been with Rafn for 20 years and has been running its Special Projects Division since 2004. He holds a bachelor's degree in construction management from the University of Washington. Salas has 21 years with Rafn and is a graduate of CITC's carpentry apprenticeship program. He also graduated from the UW's construction management certificate program. Hager has been a carpenter and foreman for 17 years at Rafn. Cottell has been with the company for eight years and holds a bachelor's degree in construction management from Washington State University.

Boise Cascade

Hoffmann

Boise Cascade has promoted Tom Hoffmann to senior vice president. He currently leads the purchasing activities for the Building Materials Distribution (BMD) division. Hoffmann began his 40-year career with Boise Cascade as a sales trainee at the company's Salt Lake City BMD branch following his 1981 graduation from the University of Idaho with a bachelor's degree in marketing and management. Hoffmann moved to the Denver location in 1987 and eventually was named its branch manager. He relocated to Idaho to Boise Cascade's headquarters as the Pacific Region manager, followed by division operations manager, and a promotion to vice president of operations in 2016. Hoffmann is active with the North American Wholesale Lumber Association.

Bouchey

Portfolio Management Research (PMR) has tapped Paul Bouchey, global head of research at Seattle-based Parametric, as co-editor of The Journal of Wealth Management (JWM). Bouchey joins Jean Brunel, managing principal of Brunel Associates and editor of JWM since its founding in 1998. Bouchey has authored numerous articles for PMR's suite of 11 peer-reviewed practitioner journals, including JWM, The Journal of Portfolio Management, and The Journal of Index Investing. A CFA charterholder, he is a member of the CFA Society of Seattle. The mission of JWM is to help wealthy individuals and families as well as those who serve them do the best possible job advising them and managing their assets. Portfolio Management Research is an independent research platform for the investment management industry, and is powered by a community of practitioners, academics, institutional investors, and researchers, including Nobel laureates.

Cascade Windows

Cornerstone Building Brands has reached an agreement to acquire Cascade Windows for a cash purchase price of $245 million. Cascade is a leading independent manufacturer of energy-efficient vinyl windows and doors serving the residential new construction and repair and remodel markets. Headquartered in Spokane Valley, Cascade has approximately 800 employees at six manufacturing and three distribution locations across the West and Pacific Northwest. The transaction, subject to regulatory approval and customary closing conditions, is expected to be funded with cash on hand and close in the third quarter of 2021. Cornerstone Building Brands is a manufacturer of exterior building products for residential and low-rise non-residential buildings and is headquartered in Cary, N.C. Cornerstone has more than 20,000 employees at manufacturing, distribution and office locations throughout North America.

USACE

Van Epps

Col. Geoff Van Epps has taken command of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Northwestern Division. Van Epps comes from the Office of the Chief of Engineers in Washington, D.C., where he was director of the Pentagon office of the Chief of Engineers. Van Epps was commissioned as an engineer officer from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1995, where he received a bachelor's degree in civil engineering. He later earned master's degrees in engineering management from the University of Missouri at Rolla; in economics, finance and management from Universitat Pompeu Fabra; and in international relations from Institut Barcelona d'Estudis Internacionals. He replaces Brig. Gen. Peter Helmlinger, who is retiring after a 33-year career with USACE. The Northwestern Division is the largest division in USACE. It administers five districts based in Portland; Seattle; Walla Walla; Kansas City, Missouri; and Omaha, Nebraska.

Kwame Building Group

The Port of Seattle selected Kwame Building Group as one of 12 businesses to participate in its inaugural PortGen Accelerator program. PortGen Accelerator connects minority- and women-owned small businesses with the training and tools to make them more competitive in bidding. Based in St. Louis, Kwame operates a Seattle office to manage construction projects in the Northwest. Local clients include Washington State Convention Center and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

Theiss Law Group

Theiss Law Group PC, a Seattle law firm serving construction and manufacturing clients, has changed its name to Truss Faber PC in a rebranding effort. This new brand stems from the etymological connection of the words “truss” and “faber” to the construction and manufacturing industries. The firm has four practice areas, including construction, manufacturing, architecture and design, and government contracts. It also launched a new website at http://www.trussfaber.com.

Theiss Law Group

Theiss Law Group, a Seattle law firm serving construction and manufacturing clients, announced it has rebranded to Truss Faber. This rebrand follows the expansion of Truss Faber's legal team and clientele. The word “truss” refers to the framework that reinforces the integrity of a roof or bridge. “Truss” is also a verb that means “to support,” which represents the law firm's client service. “Faber” is a Latin word that describes a craftsperson. Traditionally, the word referred to a smith, an ancestor of today's manufacturers. Truss Faber provides legal advice, complex litigation practice and general counsel services for its four practice areas: construction, manufacturing, architecture and design, and government contracts.

North Olympic Healthcare Network

The United Health Foundation, the philanthropic foundation of UnitedHealth Group, has established a three-year, $3.3 million grant partnership with the North Olympic Healthcare Network (NOHN), a federally qualified health center serving Clallam County. NOHN will help to improve access to care with the goal of improving behavioral health for children and adults in the Port Angeles area. NOHN will provide behavioral health and primary care services to 1,000 students in grades K-12 via a mobile medical unit, and offer behavioral health education to students and their parents. The partnership will also enable NOHN to expand the Port Angeles Community Paramedicine program to support individuals who frequently utilize the local emergency department for nonemergency behavioral health or substance misuse issues, and connect them to more personalized health resources. UnitedHealth Group offers a broad spectrum of products and services through two distinct platforms: UnitedHealthcare, which provides health care coverage and benefits services; and Optum, which provides information and technology-enabled health services.

Act-On Software

Portland-based Act-On Software, a growth marketing automation platform, hired Gregg Ames as chief commercial officer and Syed Ahmed as senior vice president of engineering, both will report to Act-On CEO Kate Johnson. Ames joins Act-On after driving revenue and sales growth at Marketo, Oracle, and Turning. Ahmed has extensive experience leading engineering and operations teams, most recently as CTO and VP of engineering at Contiq. Ahmed also spent four years leading a high growth period at Tapclicks, a marketing operations start-up. Ames and Ahmed join Act-On as the company looks to continue its growth trajectory and push into new markets as the demand for large businesses to transform to digital-first initiatives continues. The hiring represents another milestone this year following Act-On's announcement of $20 million in growth financing, their unveiling of an automated SMS channel, and the hosting of Growth ‘21, a growth marketing conference.

Avalara, a provider of cloud-based tax compliance automation for businesses of all sizes, announced the availability of Avalara for Hospitality, a solution for hotel chains, resorts, online travel agencies, property management groups, and short-term rental operators that automates many aspects of tax compliance including calculation and filing of sales and lodging tax returns. Avalara for Hospitality assists businesses improve compliance, streamline reporting, increase efficiency and reduce audit risk. Avalara will continue to add new capabilities and functionality, including additional hospitality tax types, to upcoming releases of the Avalara for Hospitality solution. Headquartered in Seattle, Avalara has offices across the U.S. and around the world in Brazil, Europe, and India.
