University of Washington’s Foege Building, designed by CO Architects of Los Angeles, is sheathed in terra-cotta tiles — a ‘reinterpretation’ of the brick buildings on the central campus, according to the architect. The general contractor is Hoffman Construction.

In this issue of Building for Biotech, we look at ways environmentally friendly design can help the industry draw talented employees and cut the cost of energy.
Then we move over to the eastern side of the state, where biotech research facilities and programs are being planned and developed by Washington State University.
Meanwhile, back in Seattle, the University of Washington has a new center for the study of bioengineering and genome sciences, with friendly features such as lounges, conference areas and a noodle bar.
Not all biotech programs have the same needs, so sharing space at the William H. Foege bioengineering and genome sciences building presents unique engineering challenges.
We also look at how the design, build, operate and maintain - DBOM - contract was used to building the new UW facility.
