Heliotrope Architects

Boone

Renee Boone joined Seattle-based Heliotrope Architects to continue her role as a project manager and expand into the firm's leadership. She has led residential and hospitality projects and is now leading two house projects in north Seattle and Cle Elum. Boone has practiced architecture for 26 years with experience in houses and luxury hospitality. She has worked for Olson Kundig, The Miller Hull Partnership, Cutler Anderson Architects and Lane Williams Architects.

goCstudio

Long

Sarah Long joined Seattle-based goCstudio as an architectural associate. She has worked at Olson Kundig in Seattle and a Boston architectural firm as well as in environmental conservation. At goCstudio, she is working on houses in Seattle, Eastern Washington, the San Juan Islands and Bend, Oregon, as well as two new restaurants and a winery addition. She holds a master's in architecture from the University of Washington and a bachelor's in architectural studies from Tufts University.

Wadhwani

Lavina Wadhwani is now a principal at Bellevue-based Veer Architecture. She will oversee Revit standards and keep the office updated with Building and Accessibility Code standards. She will join senior principal Kent Smutny in developing and diversifying the company's architectural portfolio. Wadhwani is an architect with over 20 years of experience in multifamily and office building projects. Her work on the LEED Silver-certified 123-4th Apartments in Olympia was recognized with an invitation to speak at the AIA Symposium organized by the Committee of the Environment. She was a project manager at Veer, HDL+T and Baylis Architects.

Rogers

The Watershed Co. hired Heather Rogers as a planner/geomorphologist, Devin Melville as an environmental planner, and said Grayson Morris has become a licensed landscape architect. Rogers has seven years of experience and will support the team with natural resource assessment, planning, research and permitting. Melville is an environmental planner with four years of experience. She assists the firm in developing technical documents for environmental plans and policies, permitting and natural resource mitigation planning. Morris is a landscape architect and SITES Accredited Professional. He is also a member of the Landscape Architecture Professional Advisory Council at the University of Washington. His design experience ranges from large-scale industrial ecological systems to urban parks and streetscapes. Watershed provides natural resources assessment, mitigation and restoration design, environmental planning and permitting, stormwater monitoring, arborist and landscape architecture services

Sanada

Portland, Oregon-based LRS Architects said it has become the largest women-owned architecture and interior design firm in the Pacific Northwest with the recent addition of Janice Sanada and Michelle Startt to the majority ownership group. Sanada is managing principal and leads the senior living studio. She joined LRS in 2003 and was named principal in 2013. Startt is managing principal. She joined LRS in 1999 and was named principal 2014. She is principal of the interiors department and the office + workplace studio, where she guides designers through projects in the commercial and public market sectors.

Marseille

Seattle-based Sazan Group hired Tom Marseille as a principal consultant and Brian Griffith as a senior mechanical designer. Both have more than 30 years of industry experience and have contributed to LEED certified Northwest projects that include the University of Washington Health Sciences and Education Building and the Allen Institute for Brain Science Block 42 Research Lab, both in Seattle, and the Edith Green Federal Building in Portland. Marseille has a background in ultra-low and net zero energy buildings and delivers integrated high-performance building solutions for clients. He will aim to accelerate the growth of Sazan's MEPT and sustainable service offerings. Griffith is one of the first certified LEED APs in the world. He will teach teams how to apply sustainable solutions in various areas, including radiant systems, chilled beam systems, natural ventilation, Net Zero Laboratories and innovative facades. He will also focus on field and sustainability services for Seattle Children's Hospital and work in other market sectors. Sazan provides MEP services and lighting, fire protection and information and communications technology system design.

DCI Engineers

Cazares

Frisby

In Seattle, DCI Engineers promoted Matthew Frisby to associate principal and Ivan Cazares to associate. Frisby now leads the Seattle civil engineering team. He has been a senior civil project manager working on commercial, multifamily, hospitality, mixed-use and high-rise projects, specifically with site preparation, compliance and development feasibility in Seattle and Bellevue and their greater metropolitan areas. Cazares helped implement the enterprise resource planning software upgrade from Vision to VantagePoint along with shortening the month-end financial close. He is responsible for overseeing DCI's accounting team and supports the firm's executive management team. DCI is a civil and structural engineering firm.

BCRA

In Tacoma, BCRA hired Lisa Bonifant as a senior associate. Bonifant will support the firm's healthcare practice. She is NCIDQ certified and is part of the interior design team. She has over 32 years of design and project management experience, including on healthcare and retail projects, for CBRE, Chase Bank and Nordstrom. BCRA provides architecture, interior design, civil engineering, structural engineering, land use planning and landscape architecture.

The Miller Hull Partnership

Dalton

The Miller Hull Partnership promoted Ben Dalton to partner. He is the seventh partner at the 44-year-old architecture, planning, urban and interior design firm. Dalton has been with Miller Hull for 16 years, starting in the Seattle studio before moving to San Diego in 2011 to help launch a studio there. Dalton has been design principal on public projects with clients that include the University of California San Diego, the University of Arizona and the County of San Diego. He also has worked on private projects including the IDEA 1 mixed-use building in downtown San Diego's I.D.E.A. District and was design principal on the renovation of Miller Hull's San Diego studio, the first project to be Living Building Petal Certified V. 4.0 in the world. He will continue to work in the San Diego studio.

Dark Light Design

Ron Kurtz joined Seattle-based Dark Light Design as principal in charge of its new St. Louis, Missouri office. Kurtz has over 30 years of lighting design experience, including infrastructure/bridges, monuments, museums, retail and hospitality projects in the U.S. and abroad. His work includes the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial-Gateway Arch, Haworth Showroom-Chicago Merchandise Mart, Four Seasons Hotel and the Renaissance Grand Hotel in St. Louis, Bass Pro Shops prototype stores and the Utah State Capitol. Prior to joining Dark Light, a lighting design firm, Kurtz was a senior associate at Randy Burkett Lighting Design.

HNTB Corp.

Mendes

HNTB Corp. named Diana Mendes as corporate president of infrastructure and mobility equity, a new position responsible for shaping transportation and mobility equity policy through collaboration with federal, state and local agency leaders. Mendes has over 35 years in the industry, including five with HNTB, and has held leadership positions. She most recently was the firm's Mid-Atlantic Division president overseeing the growth, operations and client service in six states and the District of Columbia. Prior to that, she was the firm's transit and rail market sector leader. For several years, Mendes has been an adjunct professor at Rutgers University, teaching the National Transit Institute's Advanced Environmental Justice seminar. HNTB is an infrastructure firm.
