Phillips Burgess said Managing Partner Heather Burgess was chosen as a 2017 Boss of the Year honoree by Thurston County Chamber, along with Jim Larson from Morningside and Dave Nickerson of Tumwater Valley Golf Course. The award honors leaders for innovation, communication, vision and performance. Nominations are submitted by employees. Saint Martin's University business students help interview finalists and gather data for the selection committee.
Washington Federal said that effective Jan. 1 Michelle Coons will lead the New Mexico territory as senior vice president and regional president, replacing Bill Synnamon, who is retiring. Coons will maintain offices in Albuquerque and Santa Fe. Washington Federal operates 237 branches in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Utah, Arizona, Texas, Nevada and New Mexico.

Juno Therapeutics, a Seattle biopharmaceutical company developing immunotherapies for treating cancer, named Ann L. Lee, Ph.D., executive vice president of technical operations. Dr. Patrick Y. Yang will assume the role of executive vice president and senior advisor to the CEO. Both will report to Hans Bishop, president and CEO. Lee held senior positions at RocheGenentech and Merck & Co.
The Washington Association of County Officials elected Yakima County Treasurer Ilene Thomson as president and elected three trustees to the board: Snohomish County Assessor Linda Hjelle, Mason County Treasurer Lisa Frazier and San Juan County Auditor Milene Henley. Lewis County Assessor Dianne Dorey will take over as vice president; while former Secretary/Treasuer, Kittitas County Auditor Jerry Pettit will become second vice president of the organization. Kittitas County Prosecutor Greg Zempel was elected secretary/treasurer.

Opus Bank announced its West Coast Commercial Banking team has hired three more senior bankers. Duncan Hughes, a 12-year banking veteran, joined managing director and senior client manager based in the Los Angeles region. Christopher Patterson, a 12-year banking veteran, is managing director and senior client manager based in Orange County. Gregg Marsicano, a 32-year banking and finance veteran, is managing director of asset-based lending in the Pacific Northwest. Marsicano was with PNC Business Credit in the Pacific Northwest.
Stacy Edwards of Seattle has opened a Gymguyz operation in Seattle. The mobile personal training company brings equipment, coaches and workouts to clients of all ages, backgrounds and abilities.

Seattle Chocolate Co. has opened a new store on Concourse C at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, selling locally crafted jcoco and Seattle Chocolate products. Seattle Chocolate started in 1992, and is owned and led by CEO Jean Thompson.
Ormuco, provider of intelligent cloud platforms for enterprises and service providers with offices in Montreal and Seattle, is expanding its engineering and product teams in Seattle for its Ormuco Stack product, which is powered by artificial intelligence and machine learning. Devananda van der Veen and Sriram Subramanian are the Seattle engineering team. The Seattle office also hired Erin Paiso as marketing director.
