Dr. Randy Spaulding is the new executive director of the State Board of Education. Spaulding previously was director of academic affairs and policy for the Washington Student Achievement Council, and worked in education policy in Washington state for over 20 years.
Life Science Washington, the state's life science trade association, has seven new board members and a new chair. Caitlin Cameron, chair and CEO of OtoNexus Medical Technologies, is board chair. Cameron succeeds Martin Simonetti. New board members are: Robin Andrulevich, senior vice president of people at Juno Therapeutics; Alice Chen, Ph.D., vice president at Accelerator Corp.; Mike Gallatin, senior advisor at Frazier Healthcare Partners; Mitchell Parrish, vice president of legal and regulatory affairs at Kinetiq; Jennifer Olsen, CEO of Resourceful HR; Niki Robinson, vice president of industry relations and business development at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center; and Nancy Whiting, senior vice president of global medical affairs at Seattle Genetics.

Tracy Swartout was named acting superintendent for Mount Rainier National Park. On Jan. 8, Swartout will take over for Randy King, who will retire after 40 years with the National Park Service. Swartout is deputy superintendent at the park. The search for a new superintendent will begin shortly.
In Seattle, OncoResponse added Anil Singhal, Ph.D., as chief scientific officer, and Kamal D. Puri, Ph.D., as vice president of research and development. Singhal comes from AbbVie, and Puri from Celgene. Houston-based OncoResponse develops therapeutic antibodies for cancer patients.

Paul J. Spadafora and Shannon L. Trivett are new associates at Seattle law firm Lasher Holzapfel Sperry & Ebberson. Spadafora is part of the firm's Commercial Litigation group. He served as a judicial clerk for Magistrate Judge David W. Christel, and worked at a civil litigation firm in Florida. Trivett is part of the firm's Labor & Employment group. She worked at a civil litigation firm in Seattle, and as a judicial clerk for Associate Chief Justice Charles W. Johnson.
The Seattle Times named Kati Erwert vice president of marketing and public service. She has been director of marketing since 2015. Her new position will combine traditional marketing with public service responsibilities.

The law firm Dorsey & Whitney named J. Michael Keyes head of the Seattle office. Keyes is a partner in the Intellectual Property Litigation group, and his practice focuses on trademark and copyright infringement, unfair competition and false advertising. He replaces Randal Jones, who headed the office for a number of years. Keyes starts his new role Jan. 2.
Mary Bacarella will become executive director of the Pike Place Market Preservation and Development Authority. Bacarella was a Space Needle executive and managing director of Seattle International Film Festival. The PDA handles operations, management, preservation and development of the 9-acre market.
