In Seattle, business tax software developer Avalara hired Salim Ali as international senior vice president. Ali has over two decades of enterprise software, marketing and business management experience. He most recently was CEO of Loyakk, and before that was group vice president of marketing at SAP.

Pemco

Seattle-based Pemco Mutual Insurance added Jesus Hernandez and Chris Wheaton to its board. Hernandez is CEO of Family Health Centers in Okanogan and Wheaton is CFO of BSquare in Bellevue.

City of Tacoma

The Tacoma City Council wants to fill three positions on the Sustainable Tacoma Commission, which encourages public involvement in sustainability issues. Commissioners can come from the environmental, business, labor, housing, industrial, port, transportation, education, building and residential communities. One of the openings is a youth position. Mar-Dustrial Sales

Fort Smith, Arkansas-based In Stock Parts acquired the inventory and intellectual property of Portland-based Mar-Dustrial Sales. The inventory includes Falk couplings and gear reducers. Mar-Dustrial's intellectual property includes its name, website, and customer and inventory databases. Mar-Dustrial has supplied power transmission products to the mining, and pulp and paper industries of the Pacific Northwest since 1947.

In Seattle, Stokes Lawrence promoted lawyers Chris Graving, Erin Howshar, Jenna Ichikawa and Krista Nelson Slosburg to shareholders. Graving specializes in financial services and real estate law. He also represents lenders in tax-exempt financings through various public agencies. Howshar practices in real estate and business law, assisting business owners with asset sales and acquisitions, licensing, joint ventures and other commercial agreements. Ichikawa specializes in estate planning and administration, including complex tax planning for high-net-worth individuals. Slosburg works on a wide range of employment matters, such as workplace harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and wage and hour issues. The addition of Howshar, Ichikawa and Slosburg as shareholders makes Stokes Lawrence a majority women-owned firm. The company also has an office in Yakima.

Boeing

Luttig

J. Michael Luttig retired from Boeing. Luttig was senior advisor to the company's board and its former CEO Dennis Muilenburg, and managed all legal matters associated with the 737 MAX crashes of Lion Air Flight 610 and Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302. He joined Boeing in 2006 as general counsel. Prior to that, he served 15 years on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, and was assistant attorney general and counselor to the U.S. Attorney General.

City of Tacoma

The Tacoma City Council has four positions to fill on the Tacoma Community Redevelopment Authority Board. One requires banking or finance experience; another requires at least three years of experience as a licensed real estate broker or agent; and the other two require CPA experience. Sterling

Sterling Bancorp, the holding company of Sterling Bank & Trust, announced a $7,000 grant to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bellevue. The grant is part of the company's Anniversary Giving Campaign, which helps support communities served by the bank. Sterling has primary operations in San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York City and Bellevue.
