Qumulo

In Seattle, Qumulo hired Barry Russell as senior vice president and cloud general manager. Russell was global vice president of cloud business at F5 and a general manager at Amazon Web Services. Qumulo is a provider of hybrid cloud file storage.

Impinj

Eric Brodersen on March 6 will step down as president and COO of Impinj, a Seattle-based provider of radio frequency identification products. Brodersen has been with the company for nearly five years. He plans to travel and spend time with family before pursuing other opportunities. Impinj does not plan to immediately hire a replacement.

DOE

The U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Environmental Management appointed Connie Flohr as manager of the Idaho Cleanup Project in Idaho Falls. Flohr was deputy manager of the radioactive waste cleanup program for nearly three years, and was acting manager since November. She has over 30 years of experience in leadership, budgeting and planning. Environmental Management oversees cleanup at the Idaho National Laboratory Site.

Amazon

Seattle-based Amazon started a new program that awards $25,000 prize packages to seven teachers working with students in underserved U.S. communities to build computer science skills. All 2,400 high school and robotics teachers in the Amazon Future Engineer program can be nominated at AmazonFutureEngineer.com starting Thursday until March 12.

NTT

Data center and technology services provider NTT said it will build five data centers on its 47-acre campus in Hillsboro, Oregon. The five new buildings will total 1 million square feet and will be part of NTT's Global Data Centers division, which operates over 160 data centers in more than 20 countries and regions.

Dorsey & Whitney

Sativa Rasmussen joined international law firm Dorsey & Whitney's Seattle office as a lawyer in the cannabis practice group. Rasmussen helps businesses comply with regulatory requirements related to the cultivation, processing, manufacturing and distribution of cannabis. She also advises on entity formation and structuring, financings, and acquiring and disposing of businesses. She previously worked at Lane Powell.

Frazier Healthcare Partners

Tanya Hayes joined Frazier Healthcare Partners' Growth Buyout team as an executive partner. Hayes has over 20 years of HR management and process improvement experience in health care, technology and consumer packaged goods. She founded her own talent development consultancy while serving as interim chief people officer for Matrix Medical Network, a Frazier portfolio company. She also worked for Hospira, PharMEDium, Dyson, Ametek and Sara Lee. Frazier invests in health care companies. It has offices in Seattle and Menlo Park, California.

Kaskada

Seattle tech startup Kaskada raised $8 million in Series A funding to hire more software engineers and accelerate its growth. Kaskada soon will beta test software that uses machine learning to integrate data science and data engineering workflows. Investors include Voyager Capital, NextGen Venture Partners, Founders' Co-op and Walnut Street Capital Fund.

Freestone Capital Management

Seattle-based Freestone Capital Management is offering five $5,000 scholarships to college-bound and undergraduate students under its Freestone Future Leaders Scholarship program. Applicants should have a passion for higher education and successful leadership skills. The deadline to apply is April 1. More information is at tinyurl.com/FFLSP. WEDA

The Washington Economic Development Association handed out six 2020 Economic Development Awards. The Emerging Professional in Economic Development award went to Carolyn Honeycutt of CenterFuse in Ellensburg. Geoff Lawrence of Impact Washington won Economic Development Advocate of the Year. Economic Development Project of the Year awards went to Ostrom Mushroom Farms (Business Retention category), Vigor Industrial (Business Expansion) and the Prosser Recruitment, Retention & Expansion Committee (Business Recruitment). Snohomish County/Propeller Airports won the Innovation in Economic Development award.
