Bedell

GLY Construction added mechanical specialist Erik Bedell to its engineering staff. Bedell was a design-build preconstruction manager at Murphy Co., a large mechanical contractor in Denver. At GLY, he is working on the Allen Institute for Brain Science building. Bedell is a licensed engineer.

Wakeling

Allan Wakeling of Howard S. Wright was appointed to Seattle's Mayoral Construction Codes Advisory Board, which helps the city with proposed rules and amendments. Wakeling is serving a three-year term as the only general contractor on the 13-member board. He has worked for 33 years at Howard S. Wright, a Balfour Beatty company.

The Seattle office of McKinstry hired Jeff Margolis as preconstruction manager, and promoted Cheryl Di Re to vice president of human resources and Heidi De Laubenfels to vice president of communications and external relations. Margolis has more than 40 years of electrical contracting experience, specializing in preconstruction and estimating. Di Re joined the company in 2010 as human resources director. She holds a bachelor's degree in communication from Eastern Washington University, as well as certifications in public relations and coaching. De Laubenfels joined the company in 2012 as director of communications and external relations. She holds a bachelor's degree in journalism from Western Washington University and an MBA from Seattle University. McKinstry is a design-build-operate-maintain firm specializing in consulting, construction, energy and facility services.

Carrera

Abbott Construction hired Katie Carrera as human resources coordinator and Gillian Prentice as administrative assistant. Carrera is managing employee benefits in her newly created position. She is working on a master's degree in human resources and employee relations from Penn State. Prentice serves as receptionist and supports the office in a wide variety of tasks. She holds two bachelor's degrees from Western Washington University.

Redmond-based Sequoyah Electric hired Kevin French as senior project manager and Bridget Naidu as marketing coordinator. French served in the Navy and was trained by the IBEW and National Electrical Contractors Association. He has experience as an electrician, project manager and senior project manager on all sizes of projects. Naidu holds a bachelor's degree in design and communication from Western Washington University. She has experience in design, marketing, event planning, advising and executive support.

Master Builders Association

The Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties is consolidating its community outreach efforts into a new entity called the Community Stewardship Department. Aaron Adelstein is heading the new department, which focuses on social and environmental stewardship, building on association programs and expanding contributions to the community. Adelstein was the director of the Built Green program for eight years.

Lydig Construction

The Western Region office of Lydig Construction moved to a larger space in the Sunset North campus in Bellevue. The new office was designed with open work environments to foster collaboration. Lydig has hired more than 30 employees in the last year. The new address is: 3180 139th Ave. S.E., Suite 110, Bellevue, WA 98005.

Hammer & Hand

General contractor Hammer & Hand won two 2014 Outstanding Remodeling Achievement awards from the Oregon Remodelers Association. The winning projects were remodels to the 1916 Glasswood building in Portland, where the ground floor was built out for Xico restaurant and the second floor office and event space was retrofitted to Passive House standards. Hammer & Hand has offices in Seattle and Portland.
