Starting July 1, Seattle construction and demolition projects will need waste diversion plans

  • The city's goal is to recycle 70 percent of construction waste by 2020. Landfill no-no's next year include carpet, plastic film, clean wood and asphalt shingles.

    Rhine Demolition razed an old parking garage in Seattle to make way for Touchstone Corp.’s Troy Block office development. Starting July 1, projects like this one will need a waste diversion plan.

    The city of Seattle's new rules on what to do with construction and demolition waste don't come as a shock to David Walsh, a project manager at Sellen Sustainability.
