Drayp Interiors comes to PSQ

Drayp Interiors’ soft opening at Pioneer Square’s August art walk introduced the owner’s long-known style to a retail offering.

Drayp opened a new retail shop and a full-service interior design studio in Pioneer Square in August at 120 First Ave. S.

Shoppers off the street can stop in and buy custom design pillows or check out the high-end interior design service offering, even if they own a large hotel chain.

Among its many large-scale clients, Drayp Interiors counts Hilton Hotels, Key Bank, Chase, Wells Fargo, Starbucks and builders such as PBC, Stout and Alpine Construction. The firm has a 1,000-shade project going in Issaquah and recently completed a large-scale window covering project for the renovation and restoration of the Japanese Consulate in Seattle.

Owner Sammy J. Riddle began his design career while still in high school as an artist in the music industry. By age 21 he was working in interior design and by 30 was a GC. He narrowed his design focus on furniture and textiles as he saw old timers leaving the industry. His design aesthetic is opulent, layered and maintains a deep textile complexity, even in contemporary settings. He is passionate about keeping this art form alive.

Why settle in Pioneer Square? Riddle is a long-time fan of historic architecture, and of Pioneer Square. As a Seattle native working full-time while doing independent study for high school, he could trek downtown while his classmates were in school. He worked at Emerald City Guitars and fell in love with Pioneer Square.

During this July's Pioneer Square First Thursday Art Walk, Riddle was at a crossroads. His business lease was nearing its end. He had a plan to move to the Seattle Design Center. But after the art walk, he went home and wrote in his journal: “moving the shop to pioneer square, my favorite corner, 1st and S Washington.” Within two-and-a-half weeks he had the keys to 120 First Ave. S., in the southwest corner of the Delmar Building.

The shop opened a month ago and has its grand opening scheduled for tonight, during Pioneer Square's First Thursday Art Walk. All are welcome.
