Oregon State University placed second nationally in the Engineering Student Design Competition by the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute. Also known as the Big Beam Contest, the event pits student teams against each other to fabricate and test a precast, prestressed concrete beam with the help of local PCI producer members. OSU's team included Jill Folkestad, Gabriel Hoxmeier, Jared Trowbridge, Kenichi Nagao and Benjamin Maue. Keith Kaufman was the faculty advisor and Knife River Corp. of Harrisburg, Ore., was the local PCI producer. OSU took top honors in its regional division. A team from the University of South Florida won the overall championship.
