Construction hiring edges up in April as data center boom drives nonresidential growth

Construction employment rose a bit in April, boosted by strong demand for nonresidential projects, according to an analysis of new government data released last week by the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC).

The industry added 9,000 jobs during the month, bringing total construction employment to 8.32 million on a seasonally adjusted basis. Over the past year, the construction industry has gained 50,000 jobs, a 0.6% increase that slightly outpaced overall nonfarm payroll growth.
