What is the one over-riding element of change in the past century?
The telephone enables us to be heard anywhere in the world. Television enables events to be seen anywhere in the world. The automobile and the airplane enable people who live far apart to interact face-to-face. Electricity offers us the ability to easily read at night and powers so many technological inventions. Faxes, cell phones, e-mail and Web pages all allow for rapid exchange of ideas and information. What unites all these marvels? I believe that it is the way we interact: our intensity of communication has changed forever.
