O'Leary

Graham Baba Architects has promoted Maureen O'Leary and Brian Jonas to partner. The two join Jim Graham and Brett Baba as owners of the firm.

O'Leary's work includes the Alaska Airlines Flagship Lounge at Sea-Tac's North Satellite Terminal, the Kenmore Hangar, Pybus Market in Wenatchee, and the St. Joseph School Library renovation in Seattle. Her ongoing work includes the new home for Molbak's Garden + Home at the Gardens District in Woodinville, Washington.

Jonas' work includes the new Ballard Food Bank in Seattle, Center Table Dining Hall at the University of Washington, and the new physical brand identity and stores for PCC Community Markets in the Puget Sound region. His current work includes a restaurant and retail complex for a large technology company campus, and the new home for Photographic Center Northwest in Capitol Hill.

Parametrix

Jeff Peacock, PE, has been appointed as chair of Parametrix's Board of Directors. He recently transitioned from chief executive officer, a position he held for 15 years, to executive advisor, supporting strategic growth and mergers and acquisitions. Parametrix announced the selection of John Willis as the new CEO earlier this year.

Peacock joined Parametrix in 1990 and has played a key role in developing the company's transportation practice, including projects such as the SR 520 Floating Bridge, the SR 3/SR 304 Gorst to Bremerton Ferry Terminal project, the US 101 Coastal Corridor, and many others.

He served as president and chief executive officer from 2008 through 2022, during which time he led the firm through the great recession and the COVID-19 pandemic, including the transition to remote and hybrid work. Under his leadership, the firm expanded to five new states. In 2018, he was named Engineer of the Year by the American Council of Engineering Companies of Washington.

He succeeds Parametrix founder, Waite Dalrymple, as chair of the board. Dalrymple has served as chair of the board for nearly 30 years. He will continue to serve on the board. Parametrix's Board of Directors includes eight members, six of which are external to the company, who are responsible for guiding the firm's long-term vision.

Studio Meng Strazzara announced the promotion of several employees to leadership positions. Tony Fan has been promoted to principal, while Kris Feliciano, Robert Landa, and Bryant Draper have been promoted to associate principal.

Fan, AIA, LEED AP, began his career with SMS in 1997. With more than 25 years of experience, Fan provides feasibility studies, design development solutions, and construction documents for public and private projects.

Feliciano, AIA, has contributed to a variety of mixed-use and education projects during her 10 years with the firm. She guides projects from design through construction. Her work on The Little School recently received a Merit Award from the Association for Learning Environments (A4LE) Washington Chapter.

Landa, RA, LEED AP, maintains a focus on constructability, regularly working with teams to simplify complex designs into buildable elements. With more than 20 years of diverse design experience, he takes creative ideas and applies practical solutions while honoring each design's intent.

Draper has been designing public facilities for more than 20 years. He excels at balancing life-cycle costs with aesthetics. By prioritizing durability and sustainability, Draper's designs provide long-term value to public clients, helping them fulfill their fiscal responsibility to taxpayers.

Suquamish Tribe

The Suquamish Tribe reelected Leonard Forsman as Tribal council chairman and elected Irene Carper as Tribal council secretary. The election was part of the tribe's annual General Council gathering, which also included honoring new Tribal Elders and hearing reports from government and tribal enterprises staff. Outgoing secretary Windy Anderson, opted not to run for reelection this year. Members of the Tribal Council are elected for staggered three-year terms by adult citizens of the Suquamish Tribe. Forsman was first elected to Tribal Council more than 30 years ago and he has served as chairman since 2005. He is also president of the Affiliated Tribes of the Northwest Indians and serves on the numerous boards across the state and region. In 2021 he was appointed by Governor Jay Inslee to the Board of Regents for the University of Washington. Carper has been on the forefront of the Indian gaming industry in Washington state since operations first began in Suquamish. Now, with more than two decades of experience working for the tribe's business ventures, Carper currently serves as the chief operating officer of Port Madison Enterprises. Carper is also a veteran of Suquamish Tribal Government service. Her election marks her second tour on Tribal Council after being first elected in 2009.

Advanced Vapor Devices

Fischer

Seattle-based Advanced Vapor Devices (AVD), a vertically integrated manufacturer and distributor of cannabis vaporizer technology, appointed Doug Fischer as general counsel. His addition will enhance AVD's capabilities to offer greater client support and proactively lead industry regulatory matters. In this new role, Fischer will work alongside AVD's leadership team to be a resource for the company's clients, collaborate with them in navigating the complexities of the cannabis industry, and keep them updated on important regulatory matters. He will direct all aspects of the company's legal affairs, including the global expansion of AVD's intellectual property portfolio. Additionally, Fischer will be supporting corporate development, including partnerships and M&A activity. Fischer has legal executive experience inside and outside the cannabis industry navigating novel regulatory matters, leading complex corporate transactions, and designing and implementing compliance programs. Prior to joining AVD, Fischer served as the general counsel of Ascend Wellness Holdings, a multi-state operator with cannabis assets in seven states. Previously, he was general counsel of Greenlane Holdings, where he led the first-ever IPO of an ancillary cannabis company on a major exchange and the acquisition of publicly traded KushCo Holdings. He has also served as the chief legal officer of the National Association of Cannabis Businesses and sat on the Policy Council of Marijuana Policy Project and the Policy Committee of the U.S. Cannabis Council.

The Executive Committee of Smartsheet's Board of Directors appointed Smartsheet director Mike Gregoire as board chair. Gregoire succeeds Geoffrey Barker, who served as board chair since 2017 and will remain a member of the board. Gregoire has over 25 years of experience in the software and technology industries. He is a founding partner at Brighton Park Capital, an investment firm founded in January 2019. Prior to that, he served as CEO of CA technologies. Gregoire has been the chair of the World Economic Forum's IT Governors Steering Committee, and a member of the Business Roundtable's Information and Technology Committee. He currently serves on the Executive Council of TechNet, an organization of CEO's that represent the technology industry in policy issues critical to American innovation and economic competitiveness. He also serves on the board of the Women's Sports Foundation, which is dedicated to creating leaders by ensuring all girls access to sports, as well as the board of AMD, a multinational semiconductor company. Bellevue-based Smartsheet is an enterprise platform for modern work management.

City of Tacoma

The Tacoma City Council is currently seeking applicants to fill six positions on the Human Services Commission: five member positions and one youth position, between the ages of 16 and 18. The Commission reviews competitive funding applications, rates project applications, and makes human services funding recommendations. The Commission also serves as a resource to the City Council and staff for implementation of programming related to human services and community wellness. The Commission is comprised of 15 members serving three-year terms, except the youth position which has a one-year term. The appointed applicant is required to complete five Open Public Meetings Act and Public Records Act trainings provided by the Washington State Office of the Attorney General, within 90 days of being appointed. Clearwater Paper

Spokane-based Clearwater Paper Corporation announced the planned departure of Michael Murphy as senior vice president and chief financial officer. Murphy will continue to serve as the chief financial officer and assist the company in the transition through the second quarter of this year. Clearwater Paper is a supplier of private brand tissue to retailers, including grocery, club, mass merchants, and discount stores. In addition, the company produces bleached paperboard, and offers services that include custom sheeting, slitting, and cutting.

Burke

Graham Construction promoted three local staff within its U.S. Health, Safety and Environment group: Hunter Burke to senior regional manager of U.S. operations; and Greg Gardner and Guilley Villegas to HSE managers. In his new role, Burke will oversee all HSE functions of Graham's buildings and infrastructure operations within Washington state. Graham says this promotion is essential to enhancing its regional HSE support and aligns with operational strategies for business growth in the U.S. Gardner is working with Burke to support the infrastructure group in the state. He led HSE efforts primarily on the state Route 520 project while touching other projects within Washington. Villegas is also working with Burke, supporting the buildings group within Washington as the primary contact for field matters. He joined Graham in 2018 and has worked on several prominent Washington building projects. Graham's U.S. offices are in Seattle, Bellevue, Spokane and Omaha, Nebraska.

Skanska

Lewis

Skanska USA Building hired Dean Lewis as its first director of mass timber and prefabrication. Lewis comes to Skanska with 13 years of experience in mass timber and engineering roles in Washington and California. Based out of Seattle, Lewis is responsible for the company's work on prefabrication and mass timber projects across the United States, and consulting on business development efforts around mass timber projects. Prior to joining Skanska, Lewis was with Alphabet-funded Sidewalk Labs for two years, working on new construction technologies in the mass timber space. He also worked for Swinerton Mass Timber, DCI Engineers and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Lewis graduated from Washington State University with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering and a master's in structural engineering, studying under Dr. J. Daniel Dolan, a prominent figure in the mass timber industry.

Axis Survey & Mapping

Austin, Texas-based SAM Companies acquired Axis Survey & Mapping, a geomatics solutions company based in Redmond. Axis has relationships with engineering, public works, construction and infrastructure-focused clients. SAM provides geospatial and inspection solutions across the utility, transportation and broader infrastructure industries. The entire Axis team will join SAM, including CEO Travis Bradley, who will continue to focus on business development and operations. SAM says the acquisition is part of its plan to expand its capacity, experience and geographic presence in the Northwest. Axis was represented by Chinook Capital Advisors in the transaction. Other details of the deal were not disclosed. This is SAM's 15th acquisition in the past seven years.

Olympic College

Olympic College is starting a new construction trades program for the spring quarter at its Shelton campus, where class starts April 3. The school says students will graduate equipped with essential skills needed to secure work in the residential and light-construction industries as carpenters' helpers, construction laborers, and construction apprentices in local carpenters' and laborers' unions. It says a certificate of completion can be attained in three quarters.

ABC of Western Washington

Crisp Imaging and Hallmark Framing joined the Associated Builders and Contractors of Western Washington. Seattle-based Crisp Imaging provides printing, construction document management, interior and exterior signage, trade show materials, design services, jobsite and safety signage, banners and jobsite fence screening. Woodinville-based Hallmark Framing is a commercial framer.
