Dong

Lawyers of Color named Nelson Dong of Dorsey & Whitney to its Nation's Best list for 2019. Dong is a senior partner in the Seattle office and head of the firm's National Security Practice Group. The list recognizes 100 lawyers of color who have a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion in the legal profession.

Mercer

Mercer, a global consultant in health, wealth and career, appointed Dan McMahon as the Spokane office business leader for health. McMahon has over 25 years of insurance industry experience. Prior to joining Mercer, he was a sales executive at PayneWest. Mercer is a subsidiary of Marsh & McLennan Companies.

The Everett Clinic

The Council of Accountable Physician Practices elected Dr. Alka Atal-Barrio of The Everett Clinic to its board. Atal-Barrio is chief medical officer for The Everett Clinic. CAPP is a coalition of medical groups and health systems advancing multi-specialty medical group physician practices.

Sea to Sky Rentals

Vacasa, a Portland-based vacation rental company, announced it will buy Seattle-based Sea to Sky Rentals, which manages 85 rental properties in Seattle and the North Cascades. The deal is expected to close next month and will increase Vacasa's inventory in Washington state to over 650 properties. Michelle Acquavella founded Sea to Sky in 2003.

In Seattle, The Miller Hull Partnership promoted Julie Irvin Martinez to principal, Becky Roberts, Casey Riske, Elizabeth Moggio, Mathew Albores and Steve Doub to senior associate and Jennifer Stormont and Whitney Pearce to associate. Martinez is marketing director and has over 20 years in the architecture, engineering and construction industry. She works with firm leaders to define and deliver strategic plans and overall strategy.

Roberts plays an integral role in delivery for all projects. She brings design rigor, technical proficiency and steadfast management to project teams. Riske has extensive experience in diverse roles on complex projects and develops firm and project standards for delivery of design documents. Moggio is a project manager devoted to the design and management of public and academic spaces. She is creating two new learning environments working within a progressive design-build delivery method. Albores is an important part of the firm's international government work with the Bureau of Overseas Building Operations. As project manager, he leads coordination of consultant teams locally and outside the U.S. Doub is a senior technical architect and specifier. He leads the firm's specification effort, coordinating and communicating with teams, navigating permitting and reviewing project plans.

Stormont is an interior architecture leader experienced in hospitality, residential, mixed-use and commercial projects. She works with clients from research through design development. Pearce brings a thoughtful and collaborative approach to design and project management. She works with complex, interdisciplinary teams to deliver projects for private and public clients. Miller Hull provides architecture, master planning, urban design and interior design services.

In Seattle, DCI Engineers promoted Brad Geyer to project manager and Jordyn Prince to senior marketing coordinator. Geyer has supported tenant improvement, podium, high-rise residential, commercial and mixed-use projects. He collaborates with the in-house masonry, concrete, steel and aluminum, and cold-formed steel technical committees. Prince oversees the firm's social media program and has contributed to proposal and qualification packages, brand-focused graphic design and digital content marketing. She also leads corporate marketing initiatives in the Austin, Texas; Denver; and Missoula, Bozeman and Kalispell, Montana, offices. DCI is a civil and structural engineering firm.

In Seattle, VIA Architecture hired Dan Nelson as director and Ja-Yeong Koo as a project designer. Nelson has 25 years of architectural experience in the greater Seattle region including mixed-use, multifamily and transit facility projects. He will manage the Belltown 36 mixed-use residential tower project in Seattle. Koo's project experience includes urban infrastructure, office buildings and multifamily towers. She is working on Bellwether Housing's affordable transit-oriented development adjacent to the future Roosevelt Link Light Rail Station, and the Ballard Transfer mixed-use apartment project. VIA provides architecture, urban design and community planning.

Stantec hired three people to its Alaska environmental services group: Victor Ross as a senior associate and senior regulatory specialist in the Wasilla office; Steve Reidsma as a senior wetland scientist in Fairbanks; and Zach Baer as an environmental scientist and wetland scientist in Anchorage.

They come from another Alaska environmental firm, greatly expanding Stantec's environmental services experience, with a focus on wetlands, baseline data collection, and permitting for mining and transportation projects. As a team, they have done baseline wetlands data collection and permitting in the state. They completed U.S. Army Corps of Engineering permitting for major Alaska projects, including the Donlin Gold Project; Kivalina Evacuation Road; Cape Blossom to Kotzebue Road; and expansions at Fort Knox, Pogo and Red Dog mines.

Ross has 40 years of experience, mostly in Alaska, working for private firms and the USACE and Bureau of Land Management. Reidsma has over 25 years of Alaska natural resources experience and leads teams doing natural resource baseline and permitting work for small retail developments to larger transportation, mining and pipeline projects. Baer has 12 years of experience focused on wetland delineation, mapping, permitting and restoration. Stantec provides engineering, architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, surveying, environmental sciences, construction services, project management and project economics worldwide.
