Seattle Art Museum

Seattle Art Museum and the Betty Bowen Committee selected five artists as finalists for this year's Betty Bowen Award: Andrea Joyce Heimer, Anthony Hudson, Adair Rutledge, Lynne Siefert and Anthony White. The award honors a visual artist residing in Washington, Oregon or Idaho for original, exceptional and compelling work. The winner gets $15,000 and their work displayed at SAM. The committee may also grant two special recognition awards of $2,500. Winners will be announced next month.

Zenith West Gymnastics

Lacey Kuckelman and Georgia Innocenzi opened Zenith West Gymnastics in 12,000 square feet at 33 W. Montana Ave. in Tacoma. The gym has multi-level programs for preschoolers, recreational gymnasts and elite athletes. Kuckelman is head coach and Innocenzi is co-head coach. A grand opening event will be held 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Sept. 7.

City of Tacoma

The Tacoma Fire Department launched what it calls the first Safe Station program in the state. The program addresses opioid use and is at Fire Station 1, at 901 Fawcett Ave. There is no cost to use Safe Station services, which include medical assessment, transportation to a medical facility, addiction treatment assessment for outpatient services, first medication for opioid use disorder and connection to long-term treatment services.

Airship

Portland-based Airship bought San Francisco-based Apptimize, a testing company for mobile apps and other digital channels. Terms of the deal were not announced. Airship has a digital platform for companies to manage customer communications.

Johnson

Scheitler

In Seattle, Darigold hired Richard Scheitler as chief information officer and Monica Johnson as general counsel. Scheitler was CIO at The Wonderful Company in Los Angeles and has held roles in consulting organizations such as KPMG. Johnson was general counsel for Bonduelle Americas in Irwindale, California, and held legal roles at Ventura Foods, Western Digital Technology and Deutsche Bahn/DB Logistics/Bax Global. Darigold is the marketing and processing subsidiary of Northwest Dairy Association, which is owned by over 430 dairy farms.

Edwards Vacuum

United Kingdom-based Edwards Vacuum today is holding a grand opening event for its North American semiconductor headquarters at 6220 N.E. Century Blvd. in Hillsboro, Oregon. The 75,000-square-foot innovation and manufacturing center will house 250 employees and create 100 new high-tech jobs. Edwards is consolidating its Hillsboro staff in the new facility. The company makes semiconductor vacuum and abatement equipment.

Clark Nuber

Bellevue-based CPA firm and consultant Clark Nuber was named a “Top 100 Firm in the U.S.” by Inside Public Accounting and won ClearlyRated's Best of Accounting Award. IPA's top 100 rankings are compiled from data gathered in an annual survey. ClearlyRated's award recognizes accounting firms that have demonstrated exceptional service based on ratings from their clients.

Review board seeks new member

The International Special Review District is seeking a new member for its board, which oversees and approves new development and architectural activity in the Chinatown/International District. This is an interim appointed position that runs through November of next year. Members are otherwise elected. Position No. 3 is for a business owner, employee or property owner in the ID. McLeod joins Thrive

Apartment manager Thrive Communities has announced the recent hiring of Cori McLeod as vice president. She makes the move from Pinnacle. Thrive is the management arm of Rise Properties Trust, which has recently been buying up local multifamily properties at a rapid clip. Rise Properties, a Canadian REIT, now has about 2,900 units in 18 communities across our region. Thrive manages for Rise and others, now with about 12,000 units in its portfolio.

ULI seeks new leader

ULI Northwest is looking for a new executive director, and it could be you! Per the job description, “The executive director will oversee and coordinate the various activities of the district council, including programs, membership, corporate and program sponsorships, advisory services, communications, public relations and general management of operations.” For more details and info, see northwest.uli.org.
