Fujino

Chung

NuScale Power, a provider of small modular reactor nuclear technology, appointed two new board members, Bum-Jin Chung and Shinji Fujino. Chung is a professor in the Nuclear Engineering Department at Kyung Hee University in South Korea. He is an expert in nuclear thermal hydraulics and safety and began his career at South Korea's Ministry of Science and Technology. While at Kyung Hee University, Chung has served on various government and industry committees on nuclear safety, research and development, and national energy and electricity planning. Fujino works as a senior advisor at Unison Capital. From 2016 to 2021, he worked as the managing executive officer and global head of Equity Finance Group at Japan Bank for International Cooperation, a Japanese governmental agency. Previously he served at the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Government of Japan. Founded in 2007, NuScale is headquartered in Portland, and has offices in Corvallis, Oregon; Rockville, Maryland; Richland; and London.

Skytap

Tripathi

Seattle-based Skytap appointed Rahul Tripathi as chief product and technology officer to lead the company's Product and Engineering teams. Tripathi was the CTO and general manager of services and solutions engineering at Nutanix. Before Nutanix, Tripathi was VP of product management and engineering at Hewlett Packard Enterprise. He also worked at Cisco for over a decade, where he brought the first cloud router and virtualization-enabled branch servers to market. Skytap is a cloud service purpose-built to natively run traditional systems in Microsoft Azure and IBM Cloud. Skytap was recently named to the Microsoft Global Independent Software Vendor Program and certified by SAP for Cloud and Infrastructure Operations. Skytap is also used by hundreds of enterprises worldwide to run virtual labs for training, sales demos and POCs.

Cyemptive Technologies

Snohomish-based Cyemptive Technologies announced a business expansion, including the opening of a new regional office in North Carolina to support its growing East Coast customer base. The new office, which is the second in a series planned by the company, is located in Wilson, North Carolina, near the Raleigh-Durham business corridor. This is part of a set of strategic actions, including building infrastructure, the company is taking to position itself for its next level of growth. Rob Pike, founder of the company and recently named “Cybersecurity CEO of the Year” by CEO Monthly Magazine, is overseeing the opening and implementation of the office. Assisting him is Gary Zelanko, former chief computer architect for the NSA and Cyemptive chief information security officer.

Tilley

Mukilteo-based UMC hired Kyle Tilley, Colton Richards and Matthew Zambon as project engineers in the Major Projects Group; and Ryan Jacoby as a building automation technician and Corey Clausen as an engineer in the Building Automation Group. Tilley, Richards and Zambon are supporting project managers in tracking and reporting labor hours, document control, schedule coordination, submittals and other project-related duties. Jacoby is responsible for programming controllers, building graphics and equipment installation. Clausen's focus is on hardware and software engineering, as well as supporting equipment installations. UMC is a mechanical engineering, facilities maintenance and construction company.

NUCA of Washington

The National Utility Contractors Association of Washington recently held its annual Dinner Auction, which included an awards program for members. Award winners were: Johansen Construction of Sumner for Ditch Digger of the Year (project over $2 million); Northwest Cascade of South Hill for Ditch Digger of the Year (project under $2 million); Mike Smith and Steve Hart of ELM Locating, Locator of the Year; and Brian Beverly of USIC, Locator of the Year. The Locator of the Year award is new this year. Last month's event included a fundraiser for the organization's scholarship fund, which benefits those enrolled and seeking a degree or certification in construction-related fields.

Skanska

In Seattle, Skanska raised over $255,000 to benefit Rainier Scholars during the 10th anniversary of its Bricks + Books fundraiser. The auction brought together Skanska employees, clients, subcontractors, industry partners and members of the community to raise education funding for underrepresented students of color from the greater Seattle and Tacoma areas. This year's event was in-person after being online for two years due to the pandemic. The event has raised more than $2.3 million over 10 years.

Harts Services

Plumbing company Harts Services last month supplied an apprentice team to install a complete home water and sewer pipe system as part of a Habitat for Humanity renovation project that is renovating a Tacoma home for the holiday season. Tacoma-based Harts Services focuses on the residential plumbing market.

McGuigan

Seattle-based Laird Norton Company appointed Brian McGuigan as chief executive officer, effective January 1, 2023. McGuigan will follow current CEO, Jeff Vincent, who is retiring after 22 years. Vincent will remain as an advisor to the Laird Norton Board of Directors to assist with the transition until he formally retires on June 30, 2023. McGuigan joined the seventh-generation family-owned firm in 2012. He and Vincent are the only non-family member CEOs since the company's inception in 1855. During Vincent's tenure, which began in 2001, the 167-year-old company has changed significantly. Vincent strengthened LNC's investment approach, diversifying into new lines of business, and leading the successful sale of Lanoga, a building material retailer. Today, Laird Norton Company focuses on real estate (Laird Norton Properties and Heartland) and wealth management (Laird Norton Wealth Management), and actively seeks to acquire profitable, capital efficient businesses. McGuigan, who most recently has been serving as the company's chief operating officer, started as LNC's manager, corporate investments; advanced to director, corporate investments in 2015; VP corporate investments and compliance in 2017; VP strategy and corporate development in 2018; and executive vice President, enterprise strategy and corporate development in 2021. As CEO, McGuigan will oversee the company's organization, investments, and strategic initiatives. Additionally, McGuigan will serve on the boards of Laird Norton Wealth Management and Heartland, and as chair of the Laird Norton Properties Real Estate Committee.

AIM Consulting

Mallahan

AIM Consulting, an Addison Group company, and technology consulting firm, promoted Mike Mallahan to president. Mallahan, based in Seattle, oversees the brand's technology solutions and strategic national geographic expansion. Mallahan, a 24-year veteran in consulting, has been with AIM for five years, starting as managing director of consulting prior to his current role as vice president of consulting. Mallahan led AIM Consulting to receive multiple recognitions, including Consulting Magazine's “Fastest Growing Firms for 2022,” American Business Association Silver Stevie Award for “Healthcare Technology Solution,” and National Association for Business Resources Pacific Northwest “2022 Best and Brightest Companies to Work For.” Mallahan holds a degree in Management Information Systems from Washington State University and is a board member of CougsFirst!, a WSU business network. AIM Consulting will continue to maintain its headquarters in Seattle. With its new leadership structure, AIM plans to expand into new markets in alignment with Addison Group and its partner brands. Decorated 4-Star General Thomas Schwartz, USA, Ret., has joined Seattle-based Taqtile as a strategic advisor in Taqtile's growing global defense business. Schwartz will advise and support the evolution and adoption of the company's Manifest platform for use in the defense industry. Current usage of Manifest by military customers includes the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force, the Royal Australian Navy, and other Allied defense forces, as well as OEMs and systems integrators around the globe. Manifest is designed to empower industrial workers and military personnel to complete often complex procedures more consistently and accurately by decreasing cognitive load and stress. Schwartz has held numerous leadership positions in Korea, Germany, and the U.S. Among his roles was the command of Fort Hood in Texas, the third largest military base in the U.S. Schwartz graduated from West Point in 1967, and received a Silver Star, the Bronze Star, and a Purple Heart during his service in Vietnam.
