On the Block: Prologis (Prologis?) proposes 2,500 units, and more, over an active trainyard

Wait, you're telling me Prologis does multifamily, too? That can't be right! But, in the heart of downtown San Francisco, the logistics giant has long owned a 20-acre trainyard. The permanent easement holder is Caltrain, which today provides commuter rail between San Franciso and the South Bay area.

Earlier this month, Prologis pitched to the city an audacious mixed-use scheme that would first move the tracks underground, then develop up to 8 million square feet of apartments, offices, retail, a possible hotel … but, paradoxically, no industrial space. There would be, however, a new station for the trains.
