Home-based franchises have risks and benefits

    NEW YORK -- With the economy getting stronger and the labor market improving, running a franchise might not seem quite as appealing as it did during harder times. Still, for many would-be entrepreneurs, especially those who like the idea of working from home, a franchise can offer many benefits.

    There are two big advantages to a home-based franchise. There's the convenience and lifestyle of working from home. Then there's the fact that with a franchise, a company owner doesn't have to try to come up with a business concept and hope that it succeeds.
