Q. What was the startling medical breakthrough involving a sedated woman and her dog? Technically, it's called “composite tissue allotransplantation.”
A. The woman had fallen to the ground and, upon awakening, tried to light a cigarette but found she couldn't hold it between her lips. Then came her shock of seeing a pool of blood and her dog beside it--next her look into a mirror. “It was too horrible,” she later said, as reported by Clifford Pickover in “The Medical Book.” “The dog had torn off her face.”
