On the Block: What will happen when WFH meets BTO?

Microsoft's going back to the office. Amazon's heading back to the office. More boldface names from the ranks of corporate America have made similar recent declarations, whether by official policy memos or nudges on internal blogs. The timeline for a post-pandemic return to cubicle life isn't set in stone (fall is most usually cited), and no one really knows yet what new balance will be struck between work-from-home (WFH) and back-to-office (BTO).

Even if everyone's safe and vaccinated, there will be worries. And more hand sanitizer, more touchless building controls, more distantly spaced cubicles, more desks reserved (or “hoteled”) by workers with alternating or varying office schedules. The virus, and its variants, aren't going away.
