Christopher Priest is the new creative director at Brightwork Consulting in Seattle. Priest has nearly 20 years of marketing and PR experience in a variety of industries. Brightwork is a risk management, change management and business strategy consultant.
A team of lawyers from Skellenger Bender will join Cairncross & Hempelmann after Memorial Day. The six attorneys are partners Terry Scanlan and Alan Schuchman, and associates Patricia Laughman, Emily Dahl, Rochelle Nelson and Troy Hatfield. The attorneys are experienced in construction law and complex commercial litigation. They will be joined by two paralegals and one legal assistant from Skellenger. Cairncross says the new group will expand its risk management, dispute resolution and trial services.
California-based Sage Veterinary Centers expanded into the Pacific Northwest by partnering with Yakima Pet Emergency Service. The partnership will allow the Yakima hospital to eventually become a full-fledged referral veterinary center. Dr. Kelly O'Malley is the owner and hospital director in Yakima. Sage wants to partner with other clinics and veterinarians as part of its expansion.

In Seattle, the board of United Food and Commercial Workers Local 21 elected Faye Guenther as president and Joe Mizrahi as secretary treasurer. Guenther became acting president last month after Todd Crosby was appointed organizing director of UFCW International Union. She joined UFCW 21 in 1999 and helped organize many of the union's health care units. Mizrahi joined UFCW 21 in 2008 after graduating from law school. He has been a union representative, political organizer, political director and staff director. UFCW 21 has over 46,000 members in the state.
Robert J. Stevens joined the board of Acucela, a Seattle-based clinical-stage ophthalmology company focused on curing blindness. Stevens is chief technology officer at CorneaGen in Seattle. He has 33 years of ophthalmology experience, including product research and design. Acucela is a subsidiary of Kubota Pharmaceutical Holdings Co. of Tokyo.
Over 50,000 students will eat free breakfasts this year under Amazon's school breakfast program and Share Our Strength's No Kid Hungry campaign. The program will provide over 9 million breakfasts in more than 450 schools across the U.S. Amazon says students who eat breakfast have higher test scores in math, perform better on standardized tests and have improved classroom behavior.

Seattle-based Brightwork Consulting promoted Jennifer Hemmings to chief of staff. Hemmings has over 10 years of operations and recruiting experience. Brightwork is a risk management, change management and business strategy consultant.
The Tacoma City Council reappointed Elizabeth Pauli as city manager. Pauli became interim city manager in February 2017 and was appointed to an initial two-year term as city manager in May 2017. She joined the city in 1998 as chief assistant city attorney and later became city attorney. Prior to joining the city, Pauli was a partner at McGavick Graves, a Tacoma law firm.
Portland State University's board of trustees appointed Stephen Percy as acting president to replace Rahmat Shoureshi, who resigned last week after 21 months on the job. Percy is dean of the College of Urban and Public Affairs. He's been at PSU for five years.
