Seattle-based Schuchart Corp. promoted Dan Walker to project manager from assistant project manager. Walker has been with the company for three years and is a member of its sustainability committee. In 2007, he become Schuchart's first LEED Accredited Professional. Prior to joining Schuchart, he spent 10 years as operations manager for a large bakery where he managed all aspects of new construction, expansions and remodeling projects.
The Seattle Regional Office of the U.S. Small Business Administration named Randolph Construction Services as 2009 Region X Prime Contractor of the Year and Federal Engineers and Constructors as Subcontractor of the Year. Pasco-based Randolph is a registered woman-owned small business with 40 employees. It began as a mechanical construction firm and has grown into a design-build general contractor focusing on prevailing wage projects. Its safety record includes an EMR rating of 0.78. Richland-based Federal Engineers and Constructors has grown in its eight years to become a premier hazardous and radiological remediation company. The company claims its Remediation Division has cleared more contaminated nuclear and hazardous waste from underground sites than any firm in the country. Its EMR rating is 0.60.
Northwest Energy Star Homes named The Burnsteads as the Washington Large Builder of the Year, New Tradition Homes as the Regional Builder of the Year and Devoted Builders as Washington Small Builder of the Year. The Burnsteads built 71 Energy Star-certified homes in 2008, New Tradition built 132 and Devoted built 11. The awards are given annually to builders and verification companies that support the advancement of new Northwest Energy Star homes throughout Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Montana. The companies were judged on a range of criteria, including the number of Energy Star homes built, marketing and sales efforts, commitment to quality, training, construction methods and quality control.

Charter Construction joined Disaster Kleenup International's disaster restoration network. Charter has provided insurance restoration services in the Seattle area since 1983. With its membership in DKI, it has access to DKI's 24-hour call center, its proprietary claims tracking technology, and training seminars and workshops. It also is leveraging DKI's corporate marketing efforts. DKI is headquartered in Wood Dale, Ill.
Building materials supplier ProBuild Holdings switched to a new regional structure and adopted a new “shared services” model, both of which are expected to bring regional leadership closer to customers and reduce costs associated with back office functions. The changes expand ProBuild from four regions to six. Its new Northwest region is headed by Ed Waite in Lacey. Waite is the former president of Spenard Builders Supply. Denver-based ProBuild operates more than 470 lumber and building product distribution, manufacturing and assembly centers in 42 states.
