Bellevue's Express Construction hired Kevin Hoppe as a senior project engineer and Leonard “Lenny” Gestson as a superintendent. Hoppe began his construction career nearly 20 years ago as a carpenter and has worked his way up. He holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Seattle University and a certificate in construction management from the University of Washington. Gestson has 38 years of experience in the construction industry and has been a certified journeyman carpenter since 1974.

Smokey Point Concrete & Skagit Readymix

Scott Christianson from Arlington is the new sales manager for Smokey Point Concrete & Skagit Readymix, which serves Skagit, Snohomish and northern King counties. Christianson has 25 years of experience in the cement, ready-mixed concrete, and sand and gravel industries.

GLY Construction

GLY Construction's presentation of “Content-Rich BIM” placed second in the Best Information Technology Solution competition sponsored by the Associated General Contractors earlier this year at its national convention in San Diego. The presentation by GLY's integrated design manager Dave Burger was one of six in the competition. It outlined methods undertaken by GLY to build a 1.6 million-square-foot underground parking garage for Microsoft in Redmond. The project included a 10-acre plaza and structural elements for three buildings atop the sloping lid of the garage. For his efforts, Burger received a plaque and a $500 gift certificate.

Seattle-based Jackson Dean Construction hired Roger Anderson as an estimator. Anderson has 28 years of experience in estimating and construction management. He previously worked at Conner Homes Co. in Bellevue. He is focusing on shell-and-core projects at Jackson Dean and is available to the Special Projects department as needed.

Express Construction of Bellevue hired Richard Balster as a project manager and David Anderson as a superintendent. Balster has more than 20 years of project management and estimating experience. He holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Washington State University. Anderson has 30 years of construction experience, working his way up from a laborer to a master carpenter.

ASTM International

ASTM International has conferred its L.J. Markwardt Award to Donald DeVisser of the Portland-based West Coast Lumber Inspection Bureau. DeVisser was cited for his contribution to lumber standards. He has been the technical director of the bureau since 1991. ASTM is a voluntary technical standards organization.

Jackson Dean Construction

Seattle-based Jackson Dean Construction has established a design-build division to augment its range of construction solutions. The contractor is focusing on greater Seattle-area property owners, developers and tenants looking to build but not wishing to hire a separate design team.

Construction Solutions

Kent's Construction Solutions — a supplier of products, software and services to the building information modeling and virtual design and construction fields in the Pacific Northwest — signed a partnering agreement with software developer Bentley Systems. Through the agreement, Construction Solutions can provide its clients with MicroStation, InRoads, CloudWorx and other Bentley products for the lifecycle of infrastructure. In addition, it can offer consulting services and training classes, as well as provide leadership to assist local Bentley user groups.
