In Seattle, general contractor Lease Crutcher Lewis hired Brian Packey as director of risk management, Lisa Harkness as development and education specialist, Alicia LaRiva as operations assistant and Deanne Howie as payroll specialist. Packey has 10 years of risk management experience and is a certified Construction Risk Insurance Specialist. Harkness has 19 years of workforce development experience. LaRiva has over a decade of administrative experience. Howie has worked in payroll and accounting for over a decade, and has additional experience in human resources.

Hutchinson

In Mill Creek, the Northwest Concrete Masonry Association hired Adam Hutchinson as assistant executive director. Hutchinson worked at Integrus Architecture for over 11 years as a drafter and design engineer. He holds a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Gonzaga University and an Engineer in Training designation from the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying.

Controlled Rain

Brian Cummings bought Controlled Rain, an irrigation and landscaping business based in Olympia. The new company is CR Landscaping LLC dba Controlled Rain. Other details were not available.

Elcon Corp.

Everett-based Elcon Corp. won a grant to provide fall protection safety harnesses designed for women. The grant comes from Autodesk Construction Solutions and the Associated General Contractors of America, who awarded grants to 20 other construction companies so they can buy more than 300 harnesses for women. Other Northwest firms receiving grants include Swalling General Contractors of Anchorage and two Oregon contractors, Salem-based Mid-Valley Commercial Construction and Tigard-based Snyder Roofing of Oregon. AGC is partnering with safety equipment manufacturers MSA and 3M to provide the harnesses, and all winning firms are required to train on the proper use of the harnesses.

The Seattle office of Abbott Construction hired Brad Hibbard as senior project manager; Patrick Poor as senior project engineer; Martin Erwin and Stefan Rehnfeldt as project managers; Jeff Rountree and Tahni Hartso as project engineers; Pamela Maxwell as project administrator; and Peter Davidson as superintendent. Hibbard has over 13 years of construction experience in federal, commercial, aviation and manufacturing projects. Poor has 15 years of construction experience and served in the Washington National Guard. Erwin has six years of construction experience and served in the Air Force. Rehnfeldt has been in construction for 22 years, with 12 of those years working with large health care providers in the area. Rountree has over four years of construction experience. Hartso has worked in various areas of the construction industry for over eight years. Maxwell's background includes construction, banking and insurance. Davidson has over 40 years of construction experience, ranging from residential remodels to work on Grand Coulee Dam.

George Li started Westcloud Construction as a for-hire contractor and an in-house construction firm for his development company Basel Capital. Clyde Hill-based Westcloud focuses on townhome, apartment, condo and hotel projects in the Puget Sound region. Li is an experienced investor and developer of U.S. and international properties. He hired Scott Richardson as vice president to lead the Westcloud construction team. Richardson has over 20 years of experience in the local construction industry, focusing on apartments, hotels, condos, townhomes, offices and TI projects.

KBA

The National Utility Contractors Association awarded Ditchdigger of the Year, its top national honor, to Mark Fuglevand of KBA in Bellevue. The award is presented annually to a contractor member who has made a significant contribution to NUCA and the underground utility construction industry. Fuglevand joined NUCA in 2002 and served as its local chapter president from 2006 to 2008. He then became involved in the association's national activities, joining the education committee and becoming the committee chairman. In 2014, he became convention committee chairman and was nominated to NUCA's executive board. In 2018, he became NUCA chairman.

Homewood Holdings

Missouri-based American Construction Source acquired Homewood Holdings, a regional lumber and building materials dealer operating in California, Washington and Arizona. Homewood continues to operate under its local brand names of Homewood Lumber (Loomis, California), Evergreen Lumber (Port Orchard), Eagle Creek Siding (Tumwater), Custom Choice Door (Lakewood) and The Door Mill (Chandler, Arizona). Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
