Integrus Architecture

Daniel

Integrus Architecture promoted Theresa Daniel to associate principal, which makes her a firm shareholder. Daniel will direct the Seattle structural engineering group and participate in the firm's equity commitment and quality assurance leadership groups. She has spent almost 20 years as a structural engineer with Integrus, having developed a highly focused understanding for design and construction specific to public buildings, in particular learning environments. Integrus provides architecture, planning, interior design and structural engineering.

Seattle-based Graham Baba Architects hired Caitlin Molenaar as an interior and architectural designer, and Will Wheaton, Christopher L. Vander Haak, Cassie Hillman Picard, Taehyung Kim, Whitney Madison and Lauren Keene as architectural designers. Molenaar holds masters of interior architecture and product design from Kansas State University. She is working on amenity spaces and a food hall for a corporate campus. Wheaton has experience in industrial design and carpentry, and has taught drawing and entry level architecture courses. He has a master of architecture degree from the University of Washington and a bachelor's in general studies with a focus on industrial design from Western Washington University. He is working on 2100 M Street in Washington, D.C., and the 1617 Boylston adaptive reuse on Capitol Hill in Seattle. Vander Haak was a summer intern at the firm. He has a bachelor's in visual communication design from Seattle Pacific University and a master of architecture from the UW. He is working on the Ethan Stowell Tavern and Rubenstein Bagels in the Via6 building in Seattle. Hillman Picard has over 16 years of experience, with work on projects that includes K-12, higher education, small public and houses. She is working on the Salmon Bay redevelopment of an industrial site along on the Ballard waterfront. Kim is experienced in spatial design, art direction, strategies and research, design education and production management. He has bachelor's and master's degrees in architecture from the University of Waterloo. He is working on amenity spaces for Pike Motor Works in Seattle and Tutta Bella's Stone Way and Issaquah locations. Madison has a background in high-end residential and commercial design. She holds a bachelor of architecture degree from the University of Oregon. She is focusing on residential projects in the Puget Sound region, including a waterfront house on Bainbridge Island. Keene has experience with a mix of project types and scales ranging from exhibitions to infrastructure. She has a bachelor of fine arts degree from Middlebury College and a masters of architecture from the UW. She is working on studies for the adaptive reuse of existing and historic structures in Seattle and a studio residence for a printmaker.

Attorney Liberty Upton joined Carney Badley Spellman's Estate Planning and Probate Department. Upton's legal practice includes estate planning, probate, trust administration, and taxation for families and individuals. She also assists business owners with business formation, risk management and succession planning.

Benaroya Research Institute

Benaroya Research Institute at Virginia Mason hired Dr. Carmen Mikacenic as an associate member in the Center for Translational Immunology. Mikacenic's research involves interstitial lung disease and explores aspects of acute respiratory distress syndrome. She also is a pulmonary and critical care physician, and is seeing patients at Virginia Mason Medical Center.

Pemco

Seattle-based Pemco Mutual Insurance is leading its annual school supply drive until Aug. 21. The Supply Surge program rallies local donors and organizations to support students in need. Since 2018, it has collected over 295,000 individual classroom supplies. Other participants include Vulcan, Sellen Construction and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. City of Tacoma

The city of Tacoma is accepting applications for its 2020 Grit City Trees program, which gives away street trees in an effort to increase the city's tree canopy while growing neighborhoods through community plantings. Individuals can submit applications through Aug. 30 and groups have until Sept. 6. The city's goal is to reach 30% canopy coverage by 2030. Port of Seattle

Hunter

The Port of Seattle promoted Dawn Hunter to director of aviation commercial management at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Hunter started at the port in 2017 as senior manager of airport dining and retail, and is leading the final phases of dining and retail redevelopment at Sea-Tac, adding over 50 restaurants and shops between 2019 and 2021. In her new role, she will also develop sources of non-aeronautical revenue and capitalize on new business opportunities.

Smith

Matt Smith is a new partner at Greenwood Ohlund & Co., a Seattle-based accounting firm. Smith has been a CPA since 2006 and specializes in financial audits. He works with small and medium-sized organizations, including private companies, governments and nonprofits.

BMW Motorcycles of Seattle

BMW Northwest owner Manfred Scharmach bought and reopened BMW Motorcycles of Seattle at 8100 Lake City Way. Scharmach has 52 years of experience running several BMW automotive dealerships. A news release says he was approached by BMW Motorrad to reopen the motorcycle dealership. The Lake City BMW operation was one of five area motorcycle dealerships owned by Microsoft executive Howard Crow that were closed in September 2019, according to the Seattle Times.

Alpine Immune Sciences

In Seattle, Alpine Immune Sciences entered into a $60 million private stock placement led by Omega Funds with participation from Avidity Partners, EcoR1 Capital, Invus Public Equities and Samsara BioCapital. The money and existing cash are expected to fund development of the company's preclinical and clinical pipeline through 2024. Alpine is using immunotherapy to treat cancer, autoimmune/inflammatory and other diseases.

CWU

The Wine Studies program at Central Washington University is adding two new certificate programs this fall to meet the changing needs of the state's wine industry. Starting in September, undergraduate students will be able to pursue 16-credit certificates in Tasting Room Management and Winery Event Design.

In Kirkland, Compass Construction promoted Kait O'Neill to senior project engineer, and Reid Bullock and Tom Toomey to senior estimators. O'Neill has been with Compass since 2016 and is starting on her third project with the firm. Bullock joined the company in 2016 as a project manager and transitioned to the estimating team a year later. Toomey has over 12 years of industry experience and joined Compass in 2018 as an estimator.

U.S. Department of Energy

Vance

The U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Environmental Management named Brian Vance as permanent manager of the two offices that supervise cleanup of the Hanford Site. Vance has been temporary manager since early 2019 of the Richland Operations Office and Office of River Protection. He has over 30 years of nuclear industry experience, including a role as project director for removal of contaminated soil at Hanford and as a Navy nuclear submarine officer. Joe Franco continues as deputy manager of Richland Operations and Ben Harp as deputy manager of River Protection. Both are responsible for daily operations of each office.
