Olson Kunding announced the following principal and associate promotions. Christopher Butler, Amanda Chenoweth, Lindsay Kunz, Alivia Owens and Erica Williams have been promoted to principal, while Leah Davis, Alex Fritz, Matt Hostetler, Allison Johnson, James Juricevich, Christian Poules, Derek Santo and Hilary Schanck have been promoted to associate.
Butler, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, has expertise working at a variety of scales with non-profit, cultural and commercial clients. Chenoweth works closely with teams on project types ranging from high-end residential to hospitality and commercial interiors, informed by her architecture background.
Kunz's experience to date includes a wide range of projects with an emphasis on residential and cultural sectors. Based in New York, Kunz is also the director of Olson Kundig's new office in Manhattan. Owens, LEED AP, has worked across a broad range of project types since joining Olson Kundig, including large-scale residential projects.
Williams, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, is experienced both as an architect and as a project engineer for a general contractor, contributing to her broad range of skills in both design and construction delivery. Her work encompasses a variety of project types, with a focus on large residential projects characterized by a sensitivity to the surrounding natural landscape. Davis leads large-scale workplace and hospitality projects.
Fritz's experience spans a variety of project types and scales and projects that incorporate research-based design, such as new materials and sustainable strategies. His work is especially sensitive to the intersection of architecture and landscape.
Hostetler, LEED AP, focuses primarily on residential projects, spanning a wide spectrum of scales. He also serves on Olson Kundig's facilities team, overseeing projects and updates within the office.
Johnson, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP BD+C, has experience in a variety of typologies including cultural, exterior civic public spaces, hospitality, mixed-use development, super-tall towers, historic preservation, and residential design. She specializes in high-performance design and the use of technology to advance projects from early concept phases through construction administration. Juricevich works on projects vastly ranging in size, type and location for higher education and cultural institutions, as well as private residential clients.
Poules' project focus has been primarily single-family homes since joining Olson Kundig, including several active international projects. He has also been a mentor for the Design Your [Neighbor]hood programed hosted by Seattle Art Museum. Santo, LEED AP BD+C, has experience working on a variety of single-family residential and commercial projects. He is a specialist on envelope detailing, as well as a member of Olson Kundig's internal Quality Control review team and dedicated mentor to colleagues.
Schanck's work encompasses large-scale, complex projects across a broad range of project types, from private homes, hospitality and workplace, to large-scale mixed-use and multi-unit residential. She has also led multiple data collective efforts to help project teams across the firm improve building performance.



Amrita Chakraborty, Andrew Armstrong, and Jake Paulsene have joined SCJ Alliance's Seattle office.
Chakraborty is a senior designer with SCJ. She has her bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and earned her master's in Structural Engineering from SRM University, a top-ranking university in India. She brings with her eight years of engineering experience, including preparing structural analysis reports for all types of towers, designing water and wastewater treatment systems, developing geotechnical reports, and preparing plans using CAD and CAE tools.
Armstrong is a design engineer and was recently hired full-time by SCJ after working for the firm while earning his Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from Walla Walla University.
Engineering technician Paulsene is currently in the civil engineering program at the University of Washington.
Friends of Lake Sammamish State Park (FLSSP) and REI Co-op announced a partnership for 2023, which includes park improvements and a title sponsorship of Camp S'more. REI staff and volunteers will work with FLSSP throughout the year on priority park trail improvements and habitat restoration areas identified by State Park staff. These efforts will increase accessibility and connectivity to the trails and park for entry level hikers, improve the habitat value of the park for wildlife and allow participants of all ages and skills to enjoy greater access to outdoor recreation and the park's wildlife. REI will be title sponsor of Camp S'more, an event held for first-time campers or those with limited camping experience. This event will be held August 5-6 at Hans Jensen Park at Lake Sammamish. REI will offer on-site classes and instruction for campers and provide camping equipment for underserved families participating in the event. Friends of Lake Sammamish State Park is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting, enhancing and promoting Lake Sammamish State Park. REI is a specialty outdoor retailer, headquartered near Seattle.
The city of Tacoma is seeking artists and/or artist teams to submit qualifications to create an art plan, with a budget of $30,000, for the Tacoma Mall area. The project is funded through the Madison District Green Infrastructure Project, a permeable pavement streetscape project led by the city's Environmental Services Department, as part of the City's 1 Percent for Art program which dedicates 1 percent of construction costs from public capital projects to the creation of public art. Designated as one of 29 Puget Sound Regional Growth Centers, the Tacoma Mall area is slated for significant growth over the next 10 to 15 years. It is also located over the South Tacoma Aquifer, which provides supplemental drinking water for Tacoma. Applicants must be 18 years or older, reside in the states of Washington or Oregon, and have demonstrated experience in the specialized area of public art planning. The deadline for submissions is February 8, 2023. Interested artists and/or artist teams may attend an optional Zoom info session on January 18, 2023 from noon - 1 PM. Access details to the Zoom info session will be shared on the city's official social media platforms when available. Application details are available at cityoftacoma.org/ArtsOpps.

Mukilteo-based UMC named Camilla Yamada, MS, CHFM, CHC, as line-of-business director in the Special Projects Group. The company also announced that Todd Ryland and Cristine Yerxa joined the Finance Group. UMC said Yamada's new role emphasizes its commitment to the health care community throughout the Pacific Northwest. Yamada has 20 years of direct management experience, including 12 years working for health care organizations on both the operations and capital construction sides. She succeeds Joel Perez, who has transitioned into his new role as a preconstruction project manager focused on supporting the Special Projects Group. Ryland joined as an assistant controller, supporting department leaders across UMC. Yerxa is a project accountant who is assisting project managers in the procurement of new job requests, preparation of subcontracts and oversight of vendor billing.
Mari Borrero and American Abatement & Demo won a 2022 UW Impact Award, specifically the William D. Bradford Minority Business of the Year Award. Borrero is CEO and president of Auburn-based American Abatement. The awards program recognizes business, civic and student leaders who are committed to diversity, equity and inclusion in business, and have made a substantial impact in growing businesses in underserved communities and accelerating students' careers.

Dylan Runne, an 11-time national champion in the sport of hydroplane racing, will take over as the new driver of the U-1 Miss HomeStreet boat, sponsored by HomeStreet Bank. Runne has been competing since he was eight years old across varying American and Canadian racing categories and series. He began racing inboard hydroplane boats in 2017, when he was named “Rookie of the Year.” Runne, who is twenty-eight years of age is from Rumson, New Jersey. Seattle-based CasaWire, a curated home decor digital B2B2C marketplace platform with editorial spotlighting designers, artisans, and artists from around the globe, is now available for download on Apple and Android devices. The latest launch from Wire Holdings, CasaWire builds on the success the company has had connecting the consumer with emerging and established brands in the fashion and beauty spaces, with the FashWire and GlossWire app and web-based shopping platforms. CasaWire enables users to discover trending products or search results by country, category, or brand. A private interactive social feed enables designers and consumers to share style ideas, inspirations, and photos. Designers like Barrie Livingstone, Jonathan Adler, Studio Pepe, Karim Rashid, and more will be showcasing design moments in the Rooms feature, which consumers will then be able to shop to achieve a similar look in their own homes.
