Schemata Workshop hired Christopher Palms as an architect and Scott Nye, Karen Branick and Julia Mollner as architectural interns. Palms has more than 14 years of experience designing community oriented places. Nye has five years of experience in commercial and public works in Arizona. Branick holds a bachelor of architecture degree from Carnegie Mellon and did urban design research in Pittsburgh. Mollner is interning this summer before returning to graduate school at Portland State University.



In Seattle, Clark/Kjos Architects hired Dale Anderson as a principal, Kris Paulson as a project manager and Marcus Whitener as an interior designer and draftsperson. Anderson has a background in ambulatory care and hospital projects. Paulson is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma and has experience in medical design and management. Whitener is a graduate of Washington State University's Spokane Interdisciplinary Institute, and has skills in medical projects. Clark/Kjos is a health care specialty architectural firm, and has an office in Portland.








Jensen Maritime hired eight people in three offices. In Seattle, it hired Brig Henry as a marine engineer, Jeffery Martel as a naval architect, Jean Hays as manager, accounting, and Lisa Vogt as an administrator. In New Orleans, it hired Thomas Gurnik as a senior naval architect, George Hafferty as an electrical engineer and Paul Robles as a naval architect. Jonathan Smith works in the Jacksonville, Fla., office as director, new construction. Henry has more than 20 years of experience in vessel operations, project management and marine engineering. Martel will assist the stability team on workboat projects. Hays has 27 years of experience in finance and accounting, and will help with financial strategy and project performance. Vogt will support business development and project management. Gurnik has 30 years of vessel design and construction experience. Hafferty has experience as an electronic systems analyst and integrator with training in marine and electrical engineering. Robles has skills in structural finite element analysis and hydrodynamics. Smith has 35 years of experience in vessel maintenance, dry docking, module load-out and vessel construction. Seattle-based Jensen is a naval architecture and marine engineering firm owned by Crowley Maritime.

Interface Engineering hired Shaun P. Darragh as senior lighting designer in Seattle. Darragh has 20-plus years of experience that includes the Amgen Helix Campus in Seattle, Microsoft One Cambridge Center in Cambridge, Mass., and Pearl River Tower in Guangzhou, China. He recently worked for AEI in Seattle. Interface is a mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering firm, and also has offices in Portland, San Francisco, Washington D.C., and Doha, Qatar.

Ryan Phelps joined Seattle-based EHS Design as a senior project manager. Phelps has designed corporate, retail, financial and residential projects. He owned his own architectural firm and spent 19 years with Callison. EHS provides architecture, interior design, space planning and strategic planning.


Art Anderson Associates hired Stephen E. Gatz as a naval architect in the marine group and Marc A. Derenburger as an entry-level mechanical engineer in the facilities group. Gatz has a background in naval architecture and marine engineering design, marine research and development, and marine operations. He has worked at Elliott Bay Design Group and Jensen Maritime Consultants. Derenburger is a recent graduate of Washington State University's mechanical engineering program at Olympic College. Art Anderson is a Bremerton-based engineering firm.


Parametrix hired Ryan LeProwse as a senior engineer in its Puyallup office and Gillian Zacharias as a senior planner in Bellevue. LeProwse has experience as a transportation engineer and planner, and was with David Evans and Associates. He is responsible for project execution and business development in the Puget Sound region. Zacharias has 20-plus years of environmental, land use, and transportation experience, and was with King County Metro Transit. She will work on the Waterfront Seattle EIS. Parametrix provides services in transportation, natural resources, community building, water solutions, and environmental engineering and science.


HDJ Design Group hired John Porchowsky as an inspector II in the Pasco office and Andrew N. Martonick as a lead inspector in Walla Walla. Porchowsky has 15-plus years of experience in project management, and has managed construction projects totaling more than $100 million. He is working on Myra Road in Walla Walla. Martonick has 6-plus years of construction experience and is working on the Pleasant/Home/Fern improvements in Walla Walla. HDJ is a Vancouver-based engineering, planning, land survey and landscape architecture firm.

Craft Architects hired Brett Conway as a principal. Conway has 25 years of design and organizational experience, and was chief operating officer, VP architecture and architect of record at EHS Design. Craft is an architecture and design firm.


Bernardo|Wills Architects hired Kevin Cash as a landscape architect and Steele Fitzloff as a landscape designer. Cash was executive director of Spokane Ponderosa. He is working on Chief Joseph Village Apartments at Washington State University. Fitzloff has five years of design experience, and was with Gavin Associates Landscape Architecture. He is working on traffic calming at the University of Idaho. Spokane-based Bernardo|Wills provides architecture, interior design, landscape architecture and master planning.



Bremerton-based Rice Fergus Miller hired Amos Callender and Jason Barry as designers, and Yecenia DeLuca as an operations assistant. Callender has worked in the architectural field for more than 10 years, from predesign through construction administration. He has experience in health care, hospitality, and commercial tenant improvements. Barry has 13 years of experience as a designer with an emphasis on health care design and standards of practice. His work includes tenant improvements, renovations, and new health care and medical office projects. Yecenia was a civilian human resources specialist at Joint Base Lewis McChord. Rice Fergus Miller provides architecture, interior design and planning.

Lauren Schroedter, a project engineer at Hanson Professional Services Seattle regional office, earned an Oregon engineer license. She joined Hanson permanently in 2009 after interning there. The firm provides engineering, architecture, planning and allied services.
