Andrew Bergh: Emotional distress; it's all relative

A tankful of gas. That's all Danny Satchfield wanted when he pulled into a self-serve gas station almost six years ago.

Instead, the Mississippi man saw several people burn to death in a fiery explosion that would change his life. If he'd known any of the victims, Danny's emotional trauma undoubtedly would've been worse. But in the ensuing lawsuit, the fact that Danny and the victims were complete strangers proved to be fatal to his claim.
